I don't think there's any meaningful way to know that there's any sort of distinction between hellfire and any other damage, which was the point of the change. As far as an unspoiled player is concerned, it's just another spell name. "It's 'fireball' as opposed to 'fire' so what's different about it?"

After many tries, I finally accomplished my old dream - cleared a whole Zig as a pure fighter (the aforementioned MuFi). It went quite easier than in previous versions, without teleport restrictions. Also, I got very lucky with the last two floors, easy slime horde on 26 lvl and - hilariously easy - poison-themed 27 lvl.

Hardest floors were: early Holy Zig, eight berserking juggernauts and three iron giants with a horde of reapers.

EDIT: Pan was way too easy. I should have taken Orb before doing it  :-\

ugh, I don't disagree with a name change in principle, but damnation just sounds lame.

Yeah...I don't hate the name Damnation but it doesn't sound as strong as Hellfire. Maybe something regarding brimstone (Brimstone bolt/beam or the like, maybe)? In any case, yeah, Hellfire is rather confusing to new players

Nice run Sarrak. I could be so lucky skilled. I have never managed to string together that many resistances. That's a pretty nice get-up you have!

I don't think I'm a skilled player. I have yet to get a mage to 20th level, for example. Also, I tried and died as MuFi two hundred times before finally getting hang on it (I hope). Early game is suffering time for mummies, yet the moment I got a good plate armor on, no one could touch me anymore.

About luck: after clearing all branches beside Zot and Hells, I found only TWO BAD items with rF, which is absolutely vital for the end game. Thankfully, by this time I amassed ~34k gold and created a whole market with this fortune. Gold Dragon armor and cloak saved the day, and then I got a ring from Zig that solved all my problems.

I'm closing in on two hundred runs as a hill orc fighter, I think. I get bored occasionally and need a break, so I wander off and play something I am even more bad at for a while. my latest set has been demonspawn wizards - they suck to start with. Necromancer and gladiator demonspawns I have had better luck with, but they are just distractions while I recharge my HOFi interest levels.

There should be a mod that adds a Sigmund class. That would be fun.

Speaking of sigmund, i recently managed to beat him to a pulp with the bare hands of my human wizard. Praise RNGesus!

I think it would be cool if there were a mod that let you control a unique if you entered their name as your character's name.

Obviously something real dramatic would have to happen to the game's difficulty for that to be fair, but.  It would be a fun little distraction.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

If player Centaur winrates are anything to go off, plus the fact that he fucking cheats, Nessos could probably comfortably do 27 floor ziggs.

Pretty sure the answer there is Gozag. Juggs are a lot less scary when they don't care about you.

I've only ever faced one Juggernaut at a time and two total. Both times were as a hOFi of Oka. FInesse and Heroism go a long way to fighting one, but softening it up before it hits you is good too. wands, if you have high evocations seem to help.

How the hell did you survive eight berserking juggernauts with a melee character? Hell, with any character? Those things are probably my most-feared monster.

I was seriously asking about this, in case you missed it. Any and all tips on juggernauts would be greatly appreciated. I can't even fathom how someone could survive a Zig floor with eight of the bastards.
Betting high AC here :P
* Tiruin has no idea how these things work and usually wins anyway?
Working from memory from my first 0.18 win in the tourney as a FoFi, those things did...not hurt me much at all?

Sorry, missed your question.

I looked at the log afterwards - it was ten berserking jugs. Firstly, I did not care much about them, as I was swimming in orc summons and jugs can't do much by themselves (~50 AC, Gozag, Spirit shield, Haste). Then, moths of wraith appeared. I quickly found out that two berserking jugs pounding at me hurt. Teleported, found more jugs with more moths, teleported again... I needed five teleports to clear out all remaining orcs and moths before taking on last five monstrosities at my leisure.

Just to compare, three jugs without berserking did nearly not as much damage to me as a single iron giant with his throwing session. Iron giants are much more dangerous.

The ##crawl channel has a "footv" feature where you can stage pitched battles between NPCs on one of their SSH things.
