Well I realized I haven't cleared crypt yet so I went with TSO. Already hit max piety :)

I'm a Minotaur (former) berserker. Golden dragon armor, triple swords of holy and antimagic, boots of running, ratskin cloak, all my resists.....Feels good. Found 4 scrolls of acquirement early.

I like packing Ashenzari as my final god; passive clarity/SInv and the assortment of detection enhancements are really useful in avoiding dangerous rooms and rushing through dangerous zones. Haven't found the xp transfer ability too useful yet, though.

Trog's penance is bullshit. Just constant armies of berserkers spawning. Your can't fight them so you have to run away. They are faster than you so you have to use an escape method or two, they still do massive damage to you while you escape. It's reached a point where I can't see advancing in the dungeon until it wears off. And that is ignoring the random slows + triple berserk summon while I'm running from mummys in tomb.

Can't you just wait out Trog's penance in the Ecumenical Temple where nothing can spawn? Or did they take that out?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Alright then. Makhleb mage run dead due to negligence[Turns out demon tridents are really shitty late-game weapons]. Also, nastiest pan lord I've yet seen. Fire Storm + OOD + Haste + Silence. I probably STILL would have been fine if my teleport scroll hadn't moved me CLOSER to him.

Still, I did pretty good. Lack of MP on kills really hurt, TSO is DEFINITELY better for extended then Makh on casters and I never got any good utility wands[A wand of teleportation or heal wounds probably would have saved me there]. Aside from that, Makhleb + Mage generally equals : o ]

EDIT: Shit, I forgot I had Borgnjors on this char. Maybe that would've helped. Probably not, since I couldn't have cast it in lichform or while silenced.

I would wait it out but I have no way of knowing how long it will take. I'm no going to eat all my food while waiting.

Not any more - you only get rid of god wrath by gaining XP - so you have to keep killing things, and punishments are most likely to happen just after a fight.

I find Abyss is actually a good place to do this, as if you teleport away from the summoned monsters, you are unlikely to see them again.

How well does it work if you convert to Jiyva, take care of whatever you need, kill the Royal Jelly, then abandon Jiyva? You should be able to get away for free, right?

Also, why doesn't Dissolution keep Jiyva alive?

Jiyva will continue to exist long enough to punish you anyway.  It is a little silly that Dissolution doesn't keep Jiyva alive. Personally I find the idea that the god ceases to exist when you kill the royal jelly a little silly anyway, but then, we are talking about a god of amorphous jelly monsters...

TSO is probably the best late game god, seeing as how extended is almost all unholy monsters, you get incredible healing and MP regen on kills, and somewhat useful abillities, if you feel like training invocations.  Plus he'll turn a weapon into a Holy wrath weapon, meaning you are even more able to murderize the various unholy monsters throughout extended.

If you are unable or unwilling to use TSO (maybe you're a demonspawn, or want to use necromancy spells, or whatever) then Mahkleb is a decent option.  If you can't tell, I really like having HP regen on kills...

Trog wrath is tough, you really want to be able to blink before abandoning trog, as being surrounded by berserking giants is really bad.  Still, trog is a decent god even in extended, his summons are really nice, and hand of trog is useful.  Berserk has its moments even in extended, but obviously it's pretty dangerous, you don't want to find yourself slowed with a bunch of tough enemies around.

The new wrath mechanics mean you get wrath when gaining XP, so typically immediately after, or even during a big fight, you'll get a bunch of berserk giants dropped on you. So it's probably a good idea to go somewhere relatively easy and work off the wrath, if possible.  Tomb might be one of the worst places to work off wrath, you don't want to be at 10% hp after eating a bunch of torments, only to have to fight a pile of dangerous monsters.

The nice thing about being a human is the fast XP gain, meaning you are higher level than any other race would be throughout most of the game, meaning you have more HPs, MPs, and spell levels.  This is significant!  However the 0 apts aren't terribly great, nor are they bad.  Humans are nice for being able to adapt to what they find.  I do find them a bit boring though.

Throwing is an awesome skill, I'd use that over bows, crossbows, or slings any time.  It works kinda like Unarmed combat now, where your base damage is determined by your skill.  Meaning with 27 throwing, you're doing something like 27 + thrown weapon damage.  Stones are special cased to use 1/2 of your throwing skill, but with high throwing skill, even tomahawks are devastating, plus you don't have to deal with swapping to your launcher.  I find it hard to justify using any other ranged skill anymore, although I haven't seen the numbers for all the ranged skills at various levels, so it's quite possible that at skill 14, for example, a longbow beats out a javelin.

I managed to finish the Elven Halls yesterday.  I've died there so many times that its always been a no-go zone for me, but I figured hell with it and tried it anyway.

Elven halls are so treacherous. Those elves are all glass canons, you can bring them down easily with the right spells, but if they land a good hit or 2 it might be gg.

Or you get unlucky with your magic resist and simply get banished.

A scroll of silence does wonders there, assuming you're a melee character.

I fought through the Elven Halls once. I remember getting banished.
The Abyss was safer.

Hehehe, I can see that.  I think I've only ever made it out of the abyss(after being banished) once before, but I might just be unlucky.
