Also crossbows have minimum delay of 1.0, not sure what it is for large rocks but I think it's faster than that (and that Sniper is AFAIK special-cased to be even slower than normal.)

I'm also not sure if fighting affects the damage for bows and crossbows but I know it does for throwing.

Also, I think only Dex count for Xbows, but both Strength and Dex count for Large Rocks , with a heavy weight on Strength, and both Trolls and Ogres (the throwers) have more than enough :p

Weeeeeeeee first rune ever, serpentine rune.  It wasn't HARD exactly, just a lot of fighting nagas.  And fighting nagas.  And fighting nagas.  Troll hunter of Nemelex is working out for me, not sure if its strictly optimal compared to like Trog or something but I like having options and Nemelex is kind of like being a mage for just one skill, if you can accept (sometimes) not knowing which spell you're going to cast.

Now to go write a thing for class tomorrow.

Nemelex is kind of like being a mage for just one skill
Pretty well sumed up, and given the aptitudes of trolls, that's a good thing for them :)

Starting as a hunter also gives you the large rocks that can be needed (against orc priests in groups in corridors, against hydras, and other big enemies), for early game, when evocation is still low ^^

Augh, there goes Trisha the Troll Hunter.  On the last floor of Shoals too :/

I met that merfolk unique the wiki warned about in the last area, with no one else really around.  I'd JUST found a unique amulate with MR++ so I threw that on, freezing clouded her with my rod of clouds, then moved into melee.  I drank a potion of berserk and started hacking away.  Despite me being berserk, at level 20 unarmed, having claws, and her standing in a freezing cloud, she and her elemental summons took suprisingly long to die, but I still did it with a pretty safe amount of damage.  No, what killed me was that, despite me having been in the area for several decently large fights, four merfolk javelineers appeared out of nowhere from above and below the moment I berserked.  When I came out of berserk I was at fairly low health.

I had a plan for this though, when I saw how open the Shoals was I realized ranged enemies would be a problem, so I brought scrolls of fog.  In the past when I'd used them by accident they put a LoS breaking smoke cloud around me.  But when I used one here, it created a pitiful one tile thick wall which didn't break LoS in any direction.  At this point I was at 6 health.  I had a stacked deck of escape with Banshee>Velocity>Elixir>Elixir, but I'm pretty sure Elixir doesn't heal the turn that it triggers and it was highly unlikely I would fear everything.  So I dealt four from my unidentified deck hoping for a Tomb card.  I didn't get lucky :(

Fear works on all merfolks, except her.

Hi guys, anyone got any experience with vampire Kiku enchanters? I think this is my best Kiku dude ever, and everything was going swimmingly, but now it feels like a) I am struggling quite badly, and b)  I have too many options available to me, and I don't know to do. With all the relatively recent corpse/chunk changes, are Twisted resurrection or Simulacrum worthwhile? I mean, are they significantly better than animate dead? I am also unsure whether to just learn Invisibility now, or Haste. Invis I could cast immediately, but won't help me very much in Snake, or in a War Gargoyle infested lower D. Haste is generally awesome, but won't be castable for some time.

Four spells: Invis, Haste, Simulacrum, Twisted resurrection. Spell slots for just 2 of them, although maybe I could forget animate dead?

The War gargoyles and their ilk are in general a bit of an issue - can't put them to sleep/confuse, can't Agonise them, and they sense Invis. Is Kiki's delivery service combined with Simulacrum the solution? I have literally never used Twisted R or Simulacrum, so don't know if they will cut the mustard.

Any thoughts?

Invisibility is great for stabbers, and haste is great for everyone. Those two spells will make your game a lot easier.

Simulacrum got nerfed. You have to stand over a corpse to create 1 clone, instead of creating several clones at once by wielding chunks. It's still good for Kiku worshipers. Twisted resurrection creates a large abomination that can travel between levels. It's annoying to use.

Death channel, when you find it, is a good complement to animate dead. It creates specters as you kill enemies, and you can still animate their corpses.

I'd learn invisibility just because IME I always have a consumable form of haste by the end of Lair, while consumable invisibility is quite rare.

On a more personal note, just had the entire computer freeze during a really nice game of Crawl.  I was about ready to throw something, but apparently Crawl does use the mercy system where if that happens you can reload at the start of the floor.  So that's nice.

Double post cause not sure if anyone would read this as an edit:

I have retrieved the serpentine and decaying runes, what's a good choice for 3rd rune?  Vaults: 5 sounds like a fast death but I'm not sure there are any other runes which can be more easily reached.  If I do reach it I'm fairly certain my strategy will be to come down with a million buffs and rF+++, use a scroll of immolation, and then start dealing four until I'm out of decks or enemies.

Also if I do succeed in this quest, should I grind up before going to Zot, or am I good for Depths then victory?

A chardump would help us to help you :p
Generally, the third rune is determined more by what you already have, in term of loot and skills :
More defensive and melee oriented characters, especially those who follow certain gods (Qazlal especially comes to mind) wield axes, have high evocation skill and lamps for fire/rods of cloud/ignition are good for Vault.
Casters with an way to gain mana (Sif, the weird blue crystal ball, a staff of energy,...) and ranged-oriented fighters are good for Abyss (and of course Lucy really helps, even if Dith and Zin/TSO are good there if you gathered some piety first).
And some characters should go and try to wander in Depths/Elf/Tomb to get something more before going anywhere (and the golden rune may also be a possibility).

I wish one of the print screen + key combos would actually do its job, because that was the best screenshot.  Imma edit that char dump into the previous post because two chardumps goes over the limit.  Two Evocations 15 Cloud cards from a legendary deck of war + everything immolated + 180 degree arcing on a rod of lightning = meat chunks everywhere, welcoming party clear with 25% damage taken.  Applying every buff I had easy access to also made my stats kind of insane.

Something to note: Of all the items I currently use, one of the earliest I gained was that +5 ring of slaying, because I'm lucky like that.  Also the scimitar is literally just for rElec.  Made Tesla blow himself up :P

What do you think about my skills?  Most skill based buffs have gotten pretty incremental so its hard to tell what works at this point.

Edit (sorry for hyperactive posting): I have the silver rune of zot.  And... I'm alive.  Somehow.  I was not ready for that floor.  What a crazy fucking place.  I think that's enough Crawl for today.

I find your defences really low.
You have all 3 of them at a non-negligible level, but I usually don't go in Vault without 40 in a ef or 30 in two.
Also, don't forget that a wider angle with the lightning rod reduce the damage to the targets (but I think the overall damage may stay higher).
