I really don't like Erolcha, she sent several of my characters to the Abyss in all my encounters, definitively one i try to kill as fast as possible if she spot me, and if she didn't, i try to avoid.

Finally got the Shoals rune.

It was a long grinding fight against some of the last Shoals floors defenders, resting a very lot to get back health and mana (to the point i even had to move back to my base to refill my carried food)

Now i'm at a point i would like to get a good new spell, still not found Ignite Poison (would have been so helpful in Shoals, fortunately Poison Cloud helped still a lot) i'm hesitating between Bolt of Fire or Spellforged Servitor

I have no experience with Spellforged Servitor, is it good enough for me to forget about Bolt of Fire for now (as so far it didn't impressed me in Shoals in comparison to the supposed wearker Mystic Blast), i remember reading about the servitor being rather passive and not doing much, is that still the case in 0.15 ?

AFAIK they didn't change its behavior, so yes, it's a brainless automaton who won't take the initiative. However, t - a will tell it to attack a creature, at which point it's basically casting spells on your behalf for free, and only has to fire a couple times to more than pay for itself.

So worth forgetting Bolt of Fire ?

Edit : so worth it , i just cleared the 1st floor of Vault with it + my good old Shadow Creatures.
Wow this is really amazing, better than Bolt of Fire.
Hopefully i'll survive enough to learn better spell so the thing can use them too.

IIRC, there is a nice thing with the spellforged servitor : it uses the conjuration spells you have (or maybe the Vehumet-approved ones), as long as you have less tan 50% failure chance, and it doesn't fail when casting them.
If you have magic dart and Fire bolt memorized, it may use magic dart sometimes, so it may be worth using some amnesia scrolls to forget some really low level spells (but a lvl2-3 spell is always worth keeping), especially if you can get an element-less high level spell (or a earth one, as they're not negated by elemental resistance either).

Are you sure it was a Lair end, as while i don't remember a death/miasma Lair ending i clearly remember a death/miasma Swamp ending (even got it in my only online crawl win some years ago)
I think you may be right. That may have been the first time I came close to a rune and died to miasma and undead monsters.
Good times.

Oh, yeah, I think I just made this lament in IRC, so here's a note for posterity...

Orc Jesus + Swamp = Sadness.   None of your boyz are immune to either confusion or poison, and none have the common sense to stand still instead of wandering about confused.  After the first swamp drake half of my entire party had drowned in the bogs.

The retards shall be missed.

Not a single Gold Dragon in all of the Depths.
If I had know that, I wouldn't have bothered coming there and did the rune branches instead.

I don't want to enchant an FDA.

FDAs are actually good, they let you cast spells, and can be found early enough to be worth it. GDA provide nice resists, but they're really "heavy", and it will usually be easier to find a nice plate armor (even Orc can provide a good one)...

Dat EV penalty on GDA is immense. If you cant get the resists otherwise, it's fine, but if you can it's pretty much crap. Its like getting an artifact plate with EV -10. I'd say branded plate is almost always better.

Speaking of heavy armour...

DX

Decided to take a break from DrTr mass murder and tried a GrFi for kicks. My previous record was 2 runes. Due to a combination of lucky drops and being a GrFi this guy felt incredibly easymode from the get-go, so I would've felt bad just going for the win at 3 runes. I want my first win to mean something, damnit.

Died like a dog in the abyss, of course. To an orc priest of all things, wow.

GDA is good for any starting character with high strength, who'll get automatic strength pick on level up. With enough Str the evasion penalty isn't a big deal.
Having two elemental resistances (as opposed to two, minus one) and having rPois, which would take another equipment slot otherwise is just good.

Even on a high level minotaur who has spammed STR, it's still -5 EV (and you better not be planning to cast anything). Just not worth it imho, although I guess it depends on what gear choices you have to make to get the missing resist.
