Correction: Octopodes can wear hats.
...Really? That's...That's kind of adorable, actually.

They can use shields too if i remember well my only attempt at playing one.
It's just the body armors that are a no go (and probably boots, not sure about gloves as i never got such things in my only play of them)
The sad thing about octopode is that you don't get 8 attacks by rounds or use 8 weapons at once :D

You can constrict 8 opponents at once though.

*recruits Shook to draw octohat*

I guess it makes sense that an Octopode wouldn't get 8 hits in one round because he can't have all his tentacles in front of him at once. He probably needs most of them just to wiggle around anyways.

I believe that was the intention. Nothing screams adorable more than a bright orange octopus in a top hat.

Corrosion hasn't been "nerfed", it's now a lot more dangerous because it cripples your AC within that fight.  It just doesn't encourage you to keep a second set of armour and change into it every time you find a jelly

I've not been threatened by a jelly since they changed how corrosion works. Maybe it's a bigger deal for characters with lower AC, but I usually play plate-toting tanks, and they tend to not do much to me. I'd imagine that they're annoying as all hell in the Slime Pits, though.

I've noticed that jellies are faster than they used to be too, unless I've been playing a bunch of slow ass characters without realizing it. I think I died trying to run away from one on some caster while it was nipping corroding at my heels.

At some point jellies were changed from speed 0.9 to speed 1 (ie normal), because speed 0.9 encouraged annoying kiting.

I think that you keep your GDR, but loses your AC (more than 4 times as fast).
It isn't realyl dangerous when you're facing noe or two jellies, it is danregous when you face a jelly and a centaur, for example, as losing 3 AC when you get hit by 2 arrow a turn is not fun.
In fact, it makes Jellies a bit like the paralyzing Eye : not dangerous alone, but when there are (the good) monsters with it, a real threat.

Meh, I can't actually seem to ever get to Lair. I always die to SOMETHING. Orc priests, a random troll, etc. I usually don't even reach the Temple...

GDR is capped at half of your AC anyway.  Jellies alone won't do too much because they're a low-level monster (they never did much other than encouraging you to do annoying things, really) but more sources of corrosion will be very dangerous.

Has the duration of Sticky Flame been nerfed somewhere along the way?

I seem to remember it being a fairly reliable way of killing some pretty beefy monsters as long as you were able to survive one turn of getting hit. Now it seems to only burn for a couple of turns and leave the target with most of its HP intact.

Maybe I just need to train the spell power higher?

Are you playing a slow race like Naga? Otherwise, this issue comes up in r/dcss and /r/roguelikes a fair bit, and the usual comment is that you're not running away enough. Are you aware of 'rule 0'?  ("moving towards an enemy who has just entered your LOS is almost never optimal"). It's pretty easy to mess that up by playing too fast, or moving in the open rather than next to walls.

Posting morgues, as always, would help in diagnosing the problem.
