I find it funny that the god of slowness is good for speedruns.

Chei is great for transmuters because you can do the whole heavy armour+blade hands thing and destroy everything. As mentioned, it really changes up which enemies are a threat, and you've got to know when to run away/what to do a lot earlier than with other characters - there's little margin for error

Really though, with the huge amount of consumables available it's really not too bad, especially as soon as you've got decent translocations online.

No kidding. Having a LOS-wide attack that often 1 or 2 hits enemies makes battles a lot quicker.

Just posting to drop this in, really:

http://dobrazupa.org/tournament/0.15/

Apparently the 0.15 tournament will be starting on the 29th, so I guess 0.15 will be released 26th or 27th.

Ooh, just a week from today. Someone should probably make the tourny thread, then. Who wants the honors?

Well, you don't need to be good at crawl to make a thread about crawl (or else nobody would make threads about crawl). Moreover, there are exemple thread from the previous tournaments, around here :-°

Well, whenever anyone sets up a thread, I'd love to sign up to be on a team again. Don't play Crawl all that often, but the new changes look good, and it probably shouldn't eat up too much of my time.

Eh, I should have the time to keep it updated, so I'll just do it. Here's the tournament thread:

So before this thread dies off until the tourny is over, what do you guys think of agility? Like, the potion. It's one of those things I never bother to use outside of those "well lets turn on all my buffs for this guy" situations. Is it any good?

Play a Minotaur Berserker, berserk everything that looks dangerous. Gnoll packs, D:2 adders, etc. Only things you need to watch out about are massive things like goliath beetles and things that can confuse you mid-zerk like orc mages and sigmund. Use Trog's Hand if you don't want to get confused. Berserk's food cost is irrelevant, as long as you make sure the post-berserk slow doesn't harm you, it's basically costless. You can charge into almost anything, but be really careful of orc packs - orc priests rip apart anyone. Its hard NOT to get past D5 doing this.

Later on you'll really need to stop doing this if you want to be successful, but all you want is to get to Lair, this'll do it.

Orc hordes are the number one cause of death next to PC ghosts for me. An ogre got me this last time, was doing a lot of escape hatch dodging. But yeah food has never been a problem for me even when using food cost abilities.

I've made it nearly to D:10, I was just a bit sad when my Demonspawn Abyssal Knight died :v

My best run yet was with a Demonspawn Abyssal Knight.

Got two runes. Got sad after accidentally banishing the Royal Jelly on my first ever dive into the Slime Pits. (That was confusing. I thought it was dead, so I spent a while wandering around wondering where the rune was supposed to be before giving up.)

Died later to something or other without getting a third rune. Sad = careless.

My best was a Gargoyle Fighter of TSO. I decided against going for the third rune in the Abyss, and instead tried to clear the way down to the entrance to the Realm of Zot (It was in 0.13, so D:27, not Depths:5). I ended up somehow pissing TSO off, causing both of my angel friends to disappear, my divine shield to go with them, and lost my ability to cast Cleansing Flame. I managed to teleport out of the huge horde of Draconians I was fighting, and found myself right next to two stone giants and a boulder beetle instead.

My best run was (technically is) a Gargoyle Fighter of Qazal. I found the +9/+9 Armour of the Dragon King on the first floor of Lair.

Unfortunately, my luck ran out in Swamp; I got abyssed by a random spriggan with a weapon of distortion. That was painful. I still have that character preserved, but I was in a pretty terrible position.
