No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Double post: Goddamnit, one of the deep elves summoned a brimstone fiend. How the hell am I supposed to take on a tier 1 demon at XL 18? (Hint, I'm not. I watched my MiFi blow up from hellfire)

Man, I wouldn't even think of attempting Elf as a melee fighter at XL18. 2muchmagick4me.

I still haven't cleared it yet with my XL27 minotaur berserker of TSO, and I've cleared Tomb. Elf:3 is just way too open with way too many mages to obliterate you or summon armies on you or banish you.

If I were in your position I would've summoned as many angels as I needed to assault the brimstone fiend then run like hell out of there as soon as the fighting was over and the angels despawned.

The correct statement is
"I had MR up to my eyeballs, so decided to take on Elf."

'very resistant to hostile enchantments' is about the minimum level. 'extremely resistant' is relatively safe. I did it at 'incredibly resistant' (@ XL25) and the last parts of Elf:3 were still hairy.

IMO if you've done Lair and the dungeon is getting too dangerous, it's about time to do Snake or possibly Swamp (according to what resists you've picked up)

Elf isn't really for anyone.  Like, it's pretty doable for a high level character, but there isn't much reason to.

While testing a Lava Orc (never played with one before) i got a kobold with a dagger of draining on D:1 too, he hits me once with it but fortunately my Flame Tongue spell killed him before he could do it again.

So i got a dagger of draining early, probably then going to die quickly.

But i noticed the "Draining" word appeared on my character when the kobold hit me, and stayed for a really long time, something i didn't see before (i didn't played Crawl in a while so i probably missed most of the anti-player new stuff and nerfs) , i even had the time to make 1 more level before it finally disappeared.
I noticed it turned my skills in pink too when i was looking at the skill list to see their progress, hinting at that Draining affliction still doing something to them.

So what is draining doing in trunk now ?

Oh and i forgot how much i found the hungry game annoying, at least there's no more nausea, but due to chunks getting their nutrition nerfed, the hungry affliction appears even more often now :/

Rather than permanently losing you xp draining now reduces your effective xp in all your skills, reducing them by a significant amount, and they stay that way until you earn a certain amount of xp

Basically yeah, its replacing the small but permanent loss of xp with a much greater effective loss that is only temporary

I liked the permanent xp loss, it added fear to draining attacks. :-[

Fear is good.

I thought it was just frustrating, whereas a great temporary loss increases the risk of dying short-term, thus being more frightening.
