God, Ogres are such giant useless-things. I keep getting to Lair and dying to Black mambas or even anything that has high damage and high evasion.

10 AC with a X of protection and 11 EV are painful to work with. So, so painful. And that fast metabolism, ugh. I haven't starved yet, but occasionally I thread a very thin line. And Okawaru keeps gifting me shields! God damn it Okawaru, you have ONE job. Where's my bloody GSC?

It's getting frustrating.

A dragon hide armour is pretty much a must for an Ogre. A troll hide armour will do for a start. Also, don't be afraid of mutation roulette as you don't have many body slots to lose.

Twice, I managed to find the Dragon King Armour with my Ogres:)

Aargh... I finally had a DrTm make it past the early level wall only to lose them to an unseen horror on D9. This happened because after I managed to barely escape it with my life once, I healed up and then decided to immediately go back and try to smack it down with blade hands so I could explore that last little corner of level...

Stupid.

I trained unarmed to 5 before finding an altar to Sif Muna, and then I trained transmutations like crazy, followed by spellcasting, returning to unarmed, then fighting and dodging. I really did not like relying on unarmed without training any defensive skills (like dodging) but I guess that's what spider form is for? I didn't bother with ice form, being a red draconian and all.

I've never successfully used passwall to any benefit and it utterly failed to save me from the UH because the walls around me were two squares thick (which was apparently too deep). In retrospect I could've tried activating my ring of teleportation...or ended my blade hands early to improve my spellcasting ability, I guess.

Obvious bad decisions at the end aside, any advice on the build would be appreciated. :P

Jesus christ, those are such absurd choices.

Yeah, the great sword of speed is clearly better on everything except demons and undead, where it is slightly inferior to the blessed triple blade (attacking significantly faster, but dealing less DPS (blessed has a +75% against demons and undead, while (according to the knowledge bot) speed increases overall damage by 58% for long blades).

It might be worth it to keep the triple sword around if you are planning on doing hells/abyss/pan/tomb/crypts and using it on them.

Ok, I'm fairly certain Okawaru is outright telling me to fuck somewhere far off. Not only does he keep sending me halberds and short swords and daggers on my Ogre Hunter of Clubs, but I just found this lying on the floor of the Lair :

"The +3 Robe of Jolly Beds [rF++]

And immediately Okawaru sends me a gift :

I have found a surefire nigh-invincible combination for a fighter. All you need is a one-handed axe of vampirism, and worship Chei. One-handed, because shield is a must. It's ridiculously easy to plow through everything you need for a three-rune win. The biggest danger lies in the tendency to hit tab so absentmindedly that you might miss the rare moment when you should drink a healing potion.

So I got two runes! First time I get runes on an Ogre, and I have a sweet +9 Fire dragon armour I made.

There are two main problems :

1. Okawaru hasn't gifted me a single usable item. I'm using a +5/+3 Great mace of protection I found, and I have no other weapon, let alone a randart GSC.

2. I have Fast Metabolism 2, since Oka gifted me a dire flail of distortion which gave me yellow glow. Furthermore I have no sustenance or gourmand and harpies ate nearly all my food.


I did Vaults up to 4, Dungeon down to about 22 since it gets scary there, and all that's left is Elf:3. Fortunately I got a kickass randart cloak off a shop in Shoals 5 which has MR++, but I'm still really uncertain about all that. Nothing else I can do, though. The hunger doesn't let me even heal, let alone explore much, and I still need a better weapon.

Keep your fingers crossed for Elf!

I'm being...- wait, I was :'( - trolled by scrolls of acquirement. I found the +3 gauntlet of war (+5/+5 slaying) on D:4 . Found a scroll of acquirement and asked for armor cuz I had nothing else decent.

Got some Cr+ RElec -7 gloves   >:(


Found short after a double sword of flaming, went good for a while, got done in the last floor of the snake pits by the greater nagas who teleport you all around the place. I fought bravely, survived two teleportations in the middle of nowhere (nowhere in this context meaning "6 tiles thick pack of nagas"), finally died from poisons two steps away from stairs upstairs :'(.

Do you need a randart GSC? I thought standard Ogre procedure was just to use the vanilla GSC you got from the 3rd Ogre you killed, and maybe go all fancy with the book of Warchants, or just vorpalise the spiky little minx.

It's kind of preferable, since your only defense as an Ogre is killing stuff faster than it kills you, and with a vanilla GSC it's really hard, especially when Ettins and the like appear.

Partly because I was incredibly tired from all the Pan, partly because Torment can go fuck itself. Really bummed out, I could've escaped twenty times over, but I had been in similar situations quite often and never had a problem, so I stood and fought when I really should've bailed out. It was a fight against a fiend and a Hell sentinel, I got tormented several times in a row. Had 1 hp left at a point, no wand of healing, no potion of heal wounds, drunk a normal heal potion and then the Hell sentinel hellfired me.

Also I'm never, ever doing melee extended with anything other than a holy Exec axe, good god.
