If you're not going to wear heavy armour, go for dex. If you're going to, get the minimal strenght [if you're playing trunk I guess you're just stacking stregth forever] to wear the armour, and then go for dex.

If you're going to be casting in armour, get the minimal str for the armour, then dump everything in int. Or just straight-up int, and hope from +str drops. 1 point of str boosts the weapon damage by 1.28% according to the bots, while dex increases to hit, evasion, shields and stealth.

edit : Congratulations, the Somberlain on your [pretty damn swift O,o] victory!

Also... who's The Somberlain in this thread?

I'm the Somberlain. Anyway, the tournament is winding down, so I'm gonna try to win another game, but if it comes down to where I have to start a new character and win within something like 12-13 hours, I'll be done with the tournament.

With my legion of doom, we ran into Nergalle.
Fight followed and i started to use my flaming battleaxed to reshape his face and ... he joined my troops !

I always knew it, a battleaxe of flaming in the head is the best method to make someone more open-minded

She*

Nergalle is a she. And apparently, really ugly.

So. 4 runes done. I'm really, really tempted to go TSO and try for something more, but my character isn't exactly cream of the crop. Not to mention I'd have to deal with my seventy thousand profane servitors. Man, why are choices like, so hard  :(

Yeah great job Gravenous and TheSomberlain. Jeanjacques just watched your KoBe die in Snake on FooTV, sad death.

Well, the footie is about to start, time I got my feeble Tengu ass to the bottom of Shoals

I guess then she couldn't resist to my character orcish charms, though maybe the battleaxe in the head helped her see me him a nicer light :D

Pretty sure an axe to the head is considered a very suave introduction in polite orcish society.

So I remembered all my resists are on my weapon and armour, both of which I'd have to switch if I went TSO. I wonder if zero elemental resistance would be a hindrance in Pan...

If you're not going to use heavy armour, you almost definitely want to go for Int, not Dex. The increase to spellcasting ability and decrease to spell hunger is almost always worth more than the additional EV and stealth from Dex (which are its only real notable properties, usually). Of course, if you want to put a couple points in it because it started off really low and you want some more EV, then go for it.

Welp I'm done. Died to Cerebov... somehow? I guess a Fiend came and tormented me the same turn Cerebov and a couple of Hellions or whatever hit me all at once. I did get a few of the Pan lords for our team, though.

This was definitely a 15-runer, but my teleportitis screwed me hard, teleporting me right besides Big C. Not a single potion of Cure Mutation the entire game, too - I'd been lugging that thing since xlvl 15. Sigh.

You didn't found a teleport control ring ? Could possibly have made teleportitis less of a death trap.

Anyways, my guy had more followers than the other guy , and so

Ok, I have 3 runes (vaults, spider, shoals), and one day left. Which is the easiest and least time consuming rune for me to get, bearing in mind that I have never won with more than 3 runes, have previously killed all the Hell bosses, but none of the Pan ones, hate the new Abyss monsters, and don't know much about slime?

I have Haste, Apport, cBlink, Firestorm, Iron Shot, SubBlood, a staff of channelling and a crystal ball. Maybe Cocytus? I can get rC++ without any problems, and Firestorm is firestorm...

Damnit, if I had a week more to play, I would be carefully considering trying to get my first all runer, but I still have all of Zot to clear, and its the tourney, and I have just a day left, grrrr. I guess a smash and grab against Antaeus is not a bad bet...

Fake Edit: ooh, damn, well thats a shame Graven, jebi ga. Now I have even more responsibility to bring another victory home for the team

I always go for slime, since if you're prepared it's a pushover. Just haste yourself and firestorm everything. Watch out for mutation, Acid Oozes which throw acid and hurt like a bitch, and eyes of all kinds which paralyse and confuse and are really annoying. rCorr is nice since it removes damage from the walls and stuff, rMut is really needed for Shiny Eyes, rCold++ preferable for Azure jellies, the Royal Jelly regenerates now so you have to kill it in one go... and that's basically it, I guess. You'll probably prefer to fight in the open on a caster, since His Highness spawns stuff when it's hit but the firestorms will hit it all, and the vortexes might even baffle Him for a while.

Abyss is boring and horrible, Pan is generally easier than the Hells, and is very slightly less boring and horrible than the Abyss, Tomb can go fuck itself.

edit : Whoa, +5/+11 whip of Orc slaying... this might actually lead us places.

Got another MiFi going. Entered Dungeon 4 at XL 4. The place was full of orcs and plenty of stuff I shouldn't have been able to survive (Grinder w/ Wand of Disintegration among them), but through actual strategy and some dumb luck (Quick! Chug this potion! What? I'm berserk just when I need it?). I finally got through the level and am now XL7. So far this has been my best run.

EDIT: Oh, and I chug potions of mutations like it's going out of style. I like to mix things up. So far they've lengthened my horns, taken one Int, made me digest meat inefficiently, added two Str, and allows me to translocate small distances at will.

Well, that was embarrassing. Given how I died I mean. I read that tele scroll and didn't realize constriction was screwing it over. YASD and all that. I can imagine jeanjacques shaking his head at that.

Ugh, I'm really sorry guys, I've had a pretty bad crapstorm in RL the past couple of days and couldn't play as much as I would have liked to. It's got to the point that even playing Crawl stressed me out very badly (I actually ended up with some bad headaches after my playing sessions. Yes it is true, Crawl is bad for your health, do not play this evil game :P) so I had to step away from the game. I'll start reading the thread right now, congrats and great work to everyone! :D
