Would they work against an ice beast? Their resistance is over 9000.

Why didn't you just use Throw Icicle?
Wouldn't work. They're very nearly immune to all ice damage. My only two routes were to desperately try to memorize SIB at Poor (Or perhaps it was Fair) or go meele. You can see which I chose.

Throw icicle also does non-elemental damage. Ice beasts are... shardly immune to them. 8)

I know that feel bro, quite often my best characters die not because they're lacking in power because I'm quite conservative and retreat easily from situations that seem tough, but because I always make the mistake of retreating the wrong way...

I know it was a little while back, but using imps to counter sigmunds invisibility? Just summon tons of small mammals. The one spot that isn't covered in the little furballs is where he is. Admittedly it isn't really as effective as imps, but it's better than a non-summoners approach, with the exception of mephic cloud, beserking and evaporate.

I like getting to the part of DCSS where it seems like nearly half of all the equipment drops are enchanted.

And nearly half of those drops are only +1 as opposed to anything you would actually want at that point.  :P
