So I've been playing a lot of characters who worship Zin lately. I find the idea fascinating, as with practically all of the DCSS deities, however it feels like Recite doesn't effect humanoids reliably enough at Invocations 5. It really makes early and mid game HARD. I haven't even been able to get to late game yet. I've read that as of right now, Zin is only good for curing mutations, and then you switch to a more useful religion. I really wish they would focus on making all of the deities "viable", it's just sad that some of these amazingly fun ideas aren't capable of winning you a game. Or maybe Zin is? I have no idea.

Anyway I'm working on creating a complete list of recite quotes from what what I guess is the 'Bible of Zin'. I'm sure it has been done before but it gives me something to do. I'll post it in a spoiler and update it from time to time as it fills out.

Zin is a real pain in the ass at low Invocations skill, yeah. As that gets higher, things should improve, but don't rely on it too much now. It might still be good against chaotic/evil things and evil priests, though.

Where'd you read this? If it was on the wiki, bear in mind that Recite actually  used to be a lot worse up until recently.

Right now I know that Zin also prevents mutation and I think rotting resistance (to a variable degree, with immunity at full piety), and has a decent healing ability, and prevents Hell effects. I forget what else. Oh, and Imprison and Sanctuary, and feeds you if you're starving.

Zin is Old Testament God-flavored. So there is that.

They probably just stuck in a few shell quotes and have a bunch of random nouns, verbs, and adjectives to fill in the blanks.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Troll Wizard of Nemelex.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

Troll Wizard Anything of Nemelex.
FTFY. Nemlex is the most bizzare god ever. At first, he's kinda useless, because you keep sacrificing the multitudes of weapons you get, then you realize 'Wait. Battle sucks. Here, have my rations instead." and you are getting levelup cards suddenly.

Or sacrifice corpses at first and almost immediately get decks that let you summon random junk at your leisure.

It's a meta magikarp effect.

Having a hard time with my necros. They always get Mankure. I've converted the entire dlvl to my side as skeletons before, and Mankure just blasts them all to oblivion, simply because I can't really help. Any tips for a DENE?

... Then avoid Menkaure. He's much slower than you.

Why don't people consider this option? In the early dungeon, it's very common to face uniques (or even normal monsters) you don't have to tools to deal with yet.

Like Grinder who I hate with every inch of my soul. He became so much worse than Sigmund when his depth was reduced, he's responsible for a ton of my deaths because often I'll be too far away from a staircase when I see him/wake him up. Then he'll blink right onto my ass and stay there.

Also I curse the DCSS gods. After a long losing streak I finally had a breakthrough using a fighter. He had found a +6+5 ring of slaying and an early Okawaru altar. Then I find the entrance to the lair and it is surrounded by hydras, yaks, sheep, and two dragons. I had a falchion and no wands so that level was out of the question. I dropped down a level, found a deck of cards, and the first card I draw banishes me to the Abyss. I think "Ok, at least I'm powerful enough to survive (with the help of Okawaru) for a little bit. Maybe I'll have a turn of luck and find a gate." Right then an efreet appears and throws a fireball, burning my only teleport scroll. I run to engage him, and before I get there I smash my face into a quicksilver dragon zombie which was behind a block. Dead.

Dispel Undead.
I agree,
Necromancers have access to this spell on their starting book, it is a -very- good spell as it's a great weapon when meeting ghosts (killed many of them in last year touney as i was often playing with a necromancing character), and it will stay a good weapon against anything undead (like Menkaure) through the dungeon as your necromancy skill will improve, and Dispell Undead will then do more and more damage (according to the bot its max damage can get to 87, i assume at max power level, and from one of my good undead hunting run in Crypt, at max level Dispel Undead can destroy a lich in one shot).

Ooh.
I'm not sure what to choose then.

Trolls are those big things that are always hungry right?

I might roll a Naga or one of those bird people instead.
