I have mixed luck with Sigmund. On some plays I have little to no trouble with him, taking him out before he can even inflict one hit on me.

Then in another playthrough I'll come down the stairs and encounter Sigmund and those two elf siblings I can't remember the name of. Ah yes, that Halfling had alot of Fun.

Ok, I need someone to stand by me and slap me every time I try to random effect-zap a priest or an ogre to death.

And yeah, I know the wiki is ... not very reliable, I just couldn't really find anything in the knowledge bots. And learndb is having an argument with my internet... so far the internet is winning :(

Crawling around. Spriggan stalker. Level 5, using evaporation to kill anything that I think my dagger won't take down. Sigmund.
HAVE AT THEE!!!!! Confuse, poison, then scald him with steam. Never took a hit.

That is for killing my vampire necromancer!

EDIT: Hell, I don't know what you are all complaining about Sigmund for, when Grinder is a bitch! I can't lay a finger on he's teleporting, high hitting, heavy defended ass. Were it not for the fact that he runs like a worm, he would be insta-gank.

Grinder is pretty bad, especially when he has a good wand he can be ridiculous. At least he blinks away though.

So thanks to this thread I have become hopelessly addicted to Crawl. 2 things I don't get though;

1 - How the hell do you do well at this game? I can't get past like, level 6 maximum and that's on a good run.

2 - Why do people say Sigmund is hard? He's never killed me, I've dispatched him every time with little to no trouble unless he had company. Vampire Necromancers seem to do best, pain, vampiric draining, an army of undead and lethal infusion on your weapon does the trick.

Well, I don't know why people complain about Sigmund, as I'm loving my Spriggan Stalker combo, and a confusing cloud spells he's quick death! Although he did slay my vampire necromancer... But as for how to do well, luck. Sheer, blind luck.

EDIT: Oh man, my dead spriggan stalker just raped my living spriggan venom mage. There were potions flying everywhere! Screw Sigmund, I am my own worst enemy!

Sigmund can confuse you, go invisible, beat most early characters at melee, do lots of ranged damage... Some characters don't have much of a problem with him, evaporate or mephic cloud, berserkers or summoners tend to murder him if he doesn't confuse them first. I'm not sure how you could think he is easy though, unless you keep meeting him on dungeon level 5 or something.

What level does he usually appear at? I haven't seen him deeper than 4.

He can appear from level 2, which can be a nightmare for characters who haven't levelled much or found anything useful in D1. If you have a way of confusing him he's a joke, but if you're a low level melee type and he goes invisible there isn't always much you can do except run.

So... Many... Kobalds. I ran out of potions and they raped me. They just kept coming, I went up two levels while fending them off, but they just kept coming! I shed a tear when I think of all the poison potions I would have reaped had I managed to survive, somehow...

I've found that humans are great necromancers. They have the HP to take and cast pain, a good unarmed attack until I find a good sword (for lethal infusion), and I had a roaming army of about thirty skeletons before that fucking gnoll killed all of them (and me).

At the momeny I'm playing a DEWz, it's the first time I've ever got controlled blink to cast reliably (I've got further before but have either died before training translocations or not found the spell at all, but I found it really early and put all my exp into translocations for a while), and that spell is a real game-changer.

EDIT: And I just found the worst robe I've ever seen...  :) Cursed, -2 to all stats, -4 evasion, prevents casting, random teleports, --stealth, mutation and recurse.  :o
