I'm currently getting ready to compile the latest git (for native linux support), but I would like Wizmode support. What do I have to do to have that turned on during compile time?

compile with "make wizard" and if you want tiles, "make wizard TILES=y"

My MfCr found a +6/+7 *rage +rage vorpal katana (or something like that) in a shop on D:4. It would have cost about five thousand gold, and I managed to blow myself up with my own spores while assaulting Orc for the gold. Oh, well.

That's okay, because berserkitis is actually really terrible, and vorpal isn't a great brand anyhow.

I just got killed on the bottom floor of the Orcish Mines (entered the mines on lvl 10 of the main Dungeon), it was the deeper I ever got (not played a lot, as you can see).

You're just jealous because you didn't find a badass randart katana. :P My only winning character got the berserkitis mutation on D:4 and had three levels of it when he ascended. The early raging was a bit annoying, since I was a spriggan and could only eat veggies, but then Ashenzari's clarity kicked in. As far as terrible things go, 'zerkitis is pretty easy to deal with.

Yeah, it's certainly easy to deal with when you have Clarity and it doesn't happen anymore. Aside from that, it can very easily kill you.

Stasis works too. And most of the time, the berserking is actually beneficial. Especially in the early game, where most players are unlikely to have clarity or stasis on hand, monsters are usually dead by the time the rage runs out. Especially if your melee weapon of choice is a +6 vorpal fucking katana.

I just love the Obsidian Axe. Sure, it leaves you insanely vulnerable, but hey, when you've got a +15 vorpal broad axe, who cares? To add insult to injury, it summons long-term demons. Badass!

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Any good character race for being a Chaos Knight? And good tips about that build?
Also, what are the backgrounds/races that appear in darker grey?

If you're ever on ##crawl, look up xomscumming. If Mikee_ is on, ask him about it. It has the most deaths recorded to "A Mace".

The backgrounds in dark grey are the hard versions of that particular race. Backgrounds whose skills conflict with the race's aptitudes or abilities.

Don't worry too much about it -- Chaos Knights are fun, and very powerful. Just pick a race you like.

edit: I withdraw my statement now as through the magic of 0.8, Chaos Knights worship Xom.

Chaos knights are often short lived, but very fun. I'd suggest Troll, as they're tough enough in the early game to deal with Xom's hilarious japes. Used to be that chaos knights could choose between Xom, Makhleb and Lugonu, but now they're exclusively Xomitects. Not a class for people who play to win. :)
