Sif Muna
Oh, ok.
And Vehumet for conjurers and elementalists?
Then Sif Muna for enchanters, summoners, necromancers, transmuters and other non-damage people?
 What about venom mages?

Mang, Kiku is the way to go for Necros.

Oh right, forgot that one.

What is Cheibriados good for? personally, he's more of a burden than help.

Chei is a transmuter powerhouse. He's kinda like Nemelex, unwieldy at first, but if you know how to use him, immensely powerful. +15 to all stats means transmuters with blade hands get massive damage boosts, plus spellcasting power and drops in hunger, and he doesn't mind if you turn into a spider to escape. Slouch is an amazing panic button once you hit 5 ponderous items.

Unfortunately, he's a quite a bit less useful for other sorts of mages, and for fighters there are better choices. One biggie to remember is that the Dancing Weapon spell is forbidden by him. Un/Fortunately its pretty rare.

Naga's don't get the full benefit of Chei though, since they have limited armor slots. Still powerful though.

Protip: never leave a lvl 4 ghost which skipped learning any spells to get early sticky flames...

IDK to what extent Kiku is good for necros. True, it guarantees necro spellbooks, and corpse delivery can be nice to create an instant undead horde. But when I focus exclusively on necromancy imps become troublesome. IMO Kiku is better as a way to branch into necromancy (in particular with transmuters, and/or any vampire char), rather than boosting necro chars.

Heh. Kiku is insta vp food. But if you have the stomach for his alters, kiku is worth it for the batshit insane powerful spellbooks.

Necromancers deal with imps the same way FE deal with imps: they cowardly run away. Later on you learn IMB or Throw Icicle to kill off demons. Until then, just run away.

The real boon for Necromancers is, as you said, the books. The spells Kiku gives out are quite good. It's the only way to get a ton of spells in a reasonable timeframe. I'm looking specifically at Necromutation, Haunt, and Borgjnor's Revivification, although spells like Sublimation of Blood and Simulacra are also real nice. And for some characters, the pain brand is really, really worth it.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Unless you get to be a lucky bastard like I once did and find a dagger of draining on level one. :V

As for dealing with imps, it depends on what type they are. Red imps are crushed by Pain, and Iron imps are easily beaten so long as you stay out of Melee, White imps take a few skeleton meatshields while you Pain them to death, and I've not found a way to beat Shadow imps at low levels.

You are mistaken. Imps, as all demons, have negative energy resistance, and thus can't be pained or drained out. Hence the problem.

What. I'm glad my necros never last long enough to meet imps then.

Of course, there's always the trusty darts on hand.
