I have explored the 3 first Vaults floors, and Freezing Cloud is really usefull, and in combination with the level 6 Deflect Missile, it allowed my character to destroy several packs of centaurs and yaktaurs.

During this exploration i got in a wizlab

It looks like with 3 or 4 more points in intelligence/spellcasting, my character may soon cast level 7 spells hunger free.
That's great, as there are some that look very interesting.

Deep Elves are really as great as spellcasters as they mentionned it, though getting them to not die can be very tricky especially in the first half of the game.

Also, if your using Sif, fill out your spell book with utility spells. 30 levels left, that should be ZERO. Sif's amnesia means you should have all those levels filled in, and forget spells when you need to swap out.

Haste, Apportation, Blink, Teleport, Control Teleport. Learn spells. You have the spellcasting ability to be able to cast basically any spell level 3 and under at at least Great. If your playing the latest trunk version, even something like Animate Skeleton is useful, since it both makes a meat shield and auto butchers for you, producing chunks for food. Dispel Undead. Anything that possibly fills a niche and might save your life once.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

Out of the four elemental spell schools, fire is the one that suffers most in the late-mid/late game, were lots of monster are fire resistant or even immune. Cold suffers quite a bit less, but you can forget killing anything vaguely undead with it, or in cocytus. Air and earth are the best in the late game, and earth is probably even better then air. The highest level earth spells do tons of damage ad are mostly unresistable.

I'm trying to put more magic into my summoner by training up earth, but training up earth magic on a mummy takes a while, but it doesn't matter a whole lot now since summon hydra + summon demon + summon demonic horde can take care of most of my needs. I should really start training translocations soon though.

Not true. I cleared Crypt using nothing but Throw Icicle and Bolt of Cold.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Am I wrong in assuming, that this saber is worth keepeing around on my ice elementalist, as long as I don't plan on going into melee?

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Yeah, those are some nice resistances. Definitely keep it.

My aspiring kobold demonologist was steamrolled on D:9 by a horde of orcs followed by a deep elf followed by a troll. :(

Fact:
When you're fleeing with low HP, through a corridor you just cleared, then a eight-headed skeletal hydra will be waiting around the next corner, striking you down before you can react.

Damn you Crawl.
That was supposed to be the second character, to grab a rune :/

Fact:
Skeletal hydra are slower than you. You could have run.

Wel it doesn't help me, if discovering the hydra and my death happen in the same turn...

fact: fleeing through discovered territory significantly reduces the chance of discovering a hydra.

What are you crazy skipping levels in the early game :o you need every bit of that precious XP you can get at that point.
