Speaking of long blades by most recent KoBe just just this:

Quote
p - the +12,+10 sword of Jihad {god gift, holy, *Rage rN+ MR EV+3 Stlth--}
(Trog gifted it to you on level 15 of the Dungeon)
It has been blessed by the Shining One to cause great damage to the undead
   and demons.
   It affects your evasion (+3).
It protects you from negative energy.
It increases your resistance to enchantments.
   It makes you angry.
It makes you much less stealthy.
This sword was The Shining One's gift to a worshipper.
It makes me a happy little dog-lizard thing.

You do need stasis or clarity though, as random berserk is REALLY bad.

Meh, I only wield it when I'm planning on berserking. KoBe's can berserk a lot, what with the ability to eat just about everything in sight.

Doesn't stasis after berserking lead to negative effects? I had the impression when I played a berserker with one.
My current KoBe found an amulet of stasis, too, until now I thought it would be better to not use it.

Clarity has been changed in the trunk to allow indented berserking, which makes it much better imo.

Here is my best attempt so far:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've got the serpentine rune, and I'm trying to figure out where to go next. I can probably do the swamp or the Elf halls relatively easily, although higher stealth would certainly help in the elf halls, Vault 8 still scares me, I found a massive vault on V7 with multiple and diverse dragons, giants elves and Yactaurs which came close to killing me several times, so assuming Vault 8 is worse, I'm a little bit scared. Also, has anyone every found a steel structure with sleeping iron golems in it? I'm standing next to it in the dump, and I'm wondering if it's a timed portal or if I can safely ignore it for the time being.

Currently playing a mummy summoner and being sucessful. Having no food clock is makes up for all of a mummy's disvantages, specialy when it comes to summoners, since their spells are costly food-wise.

I'm not sure of what god I should follow now though. Either get sif muna and have MP on command and random spellbooks, or go Vehumet and lack the free channeling but get the two most powerful books in crawl, one of which contains my core spells.

If you plan to do more then summoning, Sif Muna because
of the books and the lower chance of miscast as well
as amnesia for easy respec on spells.

To clarify, Sif Muna protects you from miscast effects, but doesn't improve actual spell success rates.

Sif Muna is pretty damn good for mummies, though, with the free channeling and all.

For a mummy, Sif is quite superior to Vehumet. Train up a bit of invocations, and revel in your new ability to spam summons for days.

Don't dive Orc though, at least not initially. One or two orc priests can ruin your day really fast.

Gahhh, worshipping vehumet gives me guaranteed access to 6 awesome spellbooks but sif muna gives me free chanelling, selective amnesia and potentialy every spell in the game, and since I also want to be good enough at necromancy and ice magic to cast their most powerful spells, probably a better choice. I just have to be patient.
 Sif Muna it is.

Anyway, second thing. Is summon scorpions worth learning over summon canine familiar?

The treasure vault isn't. But I've already found that. The question isn't whether the portal is timed, it's whether there is a portal. Or just a vault.

I never picked summon scorpions on my summoners before, I didn't know what I was missing. This will be  useful till I hit the point were poison becomes useless.

Also, I think the RNG loves me:

I vaguely remember seeing a largeish square of green crystal and usually an altar at one corner (which is, I think, in front of a secret door). However, I think it was populated by crystal golems (and maybe some iron) and not just iron golems. If your thing is the same thing, there is no portal.
