When you're very lucky Jiyva altars spawn in the dungeon before you enter Lair.
When you're lucky, Jiyva altars spawn just outside of the Slime Pit entrance.
When you're not lucky, they spawn only inside the Slime Pit. Apparently there's always one inside anyways.

In the tournament i wanted one of my character to follow Jiyva, mostly i wanted to obtain that awesome in theory "spawn friendly high level slime" each time you lose 25% of health in damage.
But when i wanted Jyiva, i never found his altar (so it must have been always inside Slime Pit).
Only when i was not building a character toward that goal, that damned altar was found very easily.
At one tournament run, there was one i found 1 floor below the Temple... when i had already choosen some other deity...

My few attempts at diving into Slime Pit, hoping to quickly find the altar always ended in acidic death, the kind of slimes and their support that awaits there are -very- powerfull.
And without mentionning how degraded your inventory will come from Slime Pit unless you have the maximum amount of acid resistance and are lucky to have several artifact items.

But after playing in wizard mode to see if the benefits of that Jiyva last power were as usefull as it sounded in theory, i discovered that... no.

At the point i had earned this capacity, my character was high level and so had lots of health and AC was good, meaning my character was nearly -never- anymore 25% of health in 1 hit anymore even from strong monsters, and so was nearly never spawning those "super slimes" at all (and i found their usefullness in real battle very discutable), despite there was a bunch of battle it would have been more than usefull.

Basically, this power seems usefull when you play a low health character, that will then lose 25% of health in 1 hit very often, or if your character is low level and so do not have much health.
But low level and Jiyva last power is an impossible combination.

ah so it is just xom screwing with me. I had managed to get through to the third floor with only caution but then i got in trouble. my +2 dwarven cloak on top of a amulet of resist corrosion seemed to last me a very long time, it was only just before i died that my armor and cloak started to take damage.

I didn't really care/think about the 25% health thing. I was playing a troll so it would probably no come up very often or at all. I was after the ridiculous amount of mutations you can get and then i'd just purge the bad ones. most of the other deities didn't really apply or appeal to me.

Was in ice form, tried to drink a potion of healing but accidentally clicked a scroll of immolation, died. Why the hell do I even carry scrolls of immolation?

Decided to download this and it's amazing.

Easiest combination I've found so far is Troll Fighter. Managed to find a +3 Axe of Cold on the second level and it got me the furthest I've been. 900 or so on the score thing..

Not too good I'm sure. How often do the ghost things spawn? I fought one of my ghosts on that guy..

Anyone got any race/class suggestions for me to try?

Troll berserkers are pretty damn powerful early on. If you want  something with magic, try a wizard of some kind and get Mephitic Cloud ASAP, hands-down the best spell till 10th level of the dungeon or so.

Yeah, and MC will rock Orc (minus some of the strongest orc types in the game).

A fun combo for me is the Sludge Elf Transmuter. Punch stuff with your hands. Distill corpses into potions. Blow up the potions into clouds of gas that can have multiple effects. If that isn't enough of a trick, use sticks to snakes to get out of dodge. Turn into a fast giant poisonous spider, or an ice beast (which continues to train your unarmed combat and has some fun side effects). Finally learn blade hands and go all T2 on everything you meet.

Just be sure to pump 'int', and never forget about the speed of the spider form and sticks to snakes for getting out of dodge. Also, you'll start to rack up lots of different skills in tangential areas, so turn them off unless you plan to specialize in that direction. (Necromancy or summoning can be fun.)

Also, while I like the LeanDB, the Wiki an be great for structured pre-game reading. While it might not be perfectly accurate, it is generally accurate enough, and a good way to get a general overview of the game. If you need the specifics of a given thing (which are spoilery in the extreme, and not really necessary most of the time), then the LearnDB is your best friend.

Actually, I find that Wargs tend to be the major killers in orc that aren't affected by Mephitic. Those things are nasty and immune to poison.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

No, they exist, although I've only seen a single pair in my games.

Yeah I forgot about them, and they can indeed be nasty if you don't have a greater than Lv. 2 'zap' spell.

In trunk, there is a new spell.  It is called Tornado.  Tornado is a lvl 8 air spell (not conj/air, just air, like airstrike).  It is rape in a can.

Is it meant to be an answer to the likes of Fire Storm?

Also, my MfCr now has about as much EV and speed as a spriggan while in water.  And it's EV isn't too bad on land, either.

And, obviously, I have much more offensive power and health.  Let the fun begin.
