Anything but trog or (maybe) chei. And Xom, of course, the useless bugger. TSO's usually a semi-bad idea to get early, since SpEns (sprigs in general) can benefit pretty heavily from some poison kiting. Okawaru, Sif, Vehumet, Makkie, Kiku, Yred... pretty much every one that doesn't outright gimp some portion of your gameplan can be used. SpEn doesn't really need a god, to be honest.

I won with Nemelex, 'cause Nemmy's hax and sprigs are the second best Nemelex worshippers after mummies. Oky, Sif, or Vehy all lend themselves pretty directly to what SpEns are going about doing. Makkie's not bad if you're not picking up summoning and conj from somewhere else, but there's better gods for you to worship. Zin and Elyvie don't really add anything direct, but you can invocation train with Ely for later TSO worship. Fedhas is doable, but probably not the best of ideas -- you want to keep your fruit for eating. The warp abyss and necromancer gods are only kinda' meh. They won't hurt, but the aid they can give isn't quite as direct as the first four mentioned. Slime god's good for speedruns, but that's about it, and the stash eating is especially an issue for twiggy-armed sprigs.

That's about it, heh.

Had a grey drac paladin that could get up to 27AC with ozus armor, which is what attracted me to ice magic. Then the plan was to move on to condensation shield, had 44sh with TSO buff, just wondering how much more I could've buffed up SH if i had been a bit luckier and gotten book of ice or something.

Also, where is the morgue in the new mac build? would like to show this characters death as it involved a hilariously terrible decision.

I just got a character who died by forgetting to breathe.

I guess that's what happens when your troll berserker makes potion and equipment choices that drive his intelligence to -1.

TSO with SpEn?  Wouldn't that eliminate quite a lot of your options (poison, invisibility, hibernation, englaciation, stealth)?

Kiku and Lugonu are good for Spriggans, but they're not as simple to use as the gods in that guide. Kiku allows you to clear the Tomb early (1st rune) for massive experience. SpCK of Lugonu was one of the most popular speed-running combos before Jiyva was created.

And stabbing.  :P TSO dislikes the SpEn play style in general, unless it's used on demons and the undead.

Grr. Clearing Shoals:5 without Repel Missiles is a pain.

I'm lvl 20, I've cleared all of the Lair, most of Snake and Shoals, Elf:7, Vault1-6... I have been gifted 12 books by Sif Muna... But not a single book with Repel Missiles. Grr!

On the upside... One of my Shadow Imps apparently animated a merfolk skeleton, and that merfolk skeleton grabbed a spear of distortion. I didn't notice any of that, and I was preparing for a tough fight with a Merfolk Javelineer, when:

Edit: He must have been wielding it when he died, I don't think skeletons will pick up weapons. Even funnier.

Kirke, Louise and Maud on S:2.  It's like mid-level-female-unique-party.

I guess there's still Agnes to deal with on D:15... eh.

I got Agnes, Sonja, Norbert, and Urug on one level. To tell the truth, Agnes was the hardest, and even I got her with a sleepy-stab. But it was annoying.

i heard that spriggan enchanters were easy mode but really, stone soup, really? I'm on floor 2, i found a +2 +3 dagger of speed within moments of starting the game. now this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

tl;dr:

  1438 | D:2     | Noticed a giant spore
  1444 | D:2     | Defeated a giant spore
  1492 | D:2     | Reached XP level 4. HP: 9/19 MP: 4/12
  1492 | D:2     | Reached XP level 5. HP: 10/23 MP: 5/14
  1492 | D:2     | Reached XP level 6. HP: 11/27 MP: 6/17

yes, i killed a creature with 1 hit point and proceeded to go up three levels effortlessly.

I always smile when that happens. I also love islands surrounded by magma or deep water with OOD monsters. There's usually at lest one that's susceptible to Mephic Cloud or Evaporate. Then you see the same thing. I've actually started taking note of islands with surviving monsters... If you get a shallow lair or orc, doubling back to whack the survivors can make sense. (A sufficiently early character may well starve before they take the monsters out, but a bit more XP and...)

Yeah, there was that really weird Makhleb altar with a demon crawler and some other demon on D:4.  As a troll 'zerker, I was actually able to kill them both for MASSIVE XP.

Finally won with an ogre. They are deliciously difficult. This is one of my only games where the food clock was a severe problem. I got to where I had to make full use of every single corpse, or I would have starved before entering Zot. I had to avoid using Demonic Horde because the shadow imps would waste corpses by animating them.

This was my lowest-level Orb grab, simply because I was running out of time. I had a fair amount of food left, but I was amazed at how fast I was burning through it. A staff of energy would have been extremely nice. Amulet of the gourmand made this win possible.

I also had almost no resistances. My enchantments were more than enough to grab the Orb: deflect missile, flight, swiftness, haste, invis, control teleport. Plus apportation and summon butterflies. This must be how level 14 spriggans are able to grab it.

well i survived three of my ghosts on lair 3 to get my way to the slime pits. of course there was not a handy alter of jiyva outside of the pits like there usually is when i dont want to worship jiyva >.>

So i dived in, i had an amulet of resist corrosion, a +2 dwarven cloak and a ton of wands. It was actually going really well until i couldn't find a damn alter. went all the way down to slime 4 without finding one. I was not deterred though and using a scroll of magic mapping i continued on. this is when i found donald and killed him. I got into some trouble and teleported out.

of course i would land next to Dissolution so i GTFO of there up a staircase i hadn't been up yet. I had about 18 hp when i went up the stairs. at the top of the stairs i hit 6 hp and i'm in sight of an acid blob.

Anya the Troll Artificer just wanted to see clearly again as she raised her trusty wand of draining, with which she had killed azure slimes and acid blobs before. She grimaced as the acid covering her ate slowly away at her skin, like being in a giant stomach.

"I am Anya and I am the greatest troll who ever lived! These acid oozing caves may have bested me but others will come and surpass me. You may dissolve my body but my spirit will always remain. I WILL remain and nothing will stop my quest for power!"

And with that she blasted the acid blob with a bolt of incredibly destructive negative energy. The acid blob shrugged off the blow easily however and retaliated, filling anya's face with hot burning acidic death.

Fuck me, that's going to be a hard ghost to kill. I was up to 12k exp pool killing all those high level slimes and i still couldn't find an alter to jiyva. damn you xom.

Yeah, Ogres are fun. I managed to win with one back in 0.6. I tried ascending one online, but it didn't end well. I gave up after my 1st try.  :P

sad story

Entering the Slime Pits with a lv.13 character is asking for death. Trolls and other species with limited armor slots take extra damage against acid.

Wasn't planning on staying long but unfortunately i'm stubborn. Things were going well too until i failed to get away from danger with a few teleports.

I knew the dangers when i went in. I've been trying to make an unstoppable, massively mutated horror of a character. I also thought that finding an alter to jiyva inside the slime pit would be easier. do they even spawn inside the slime pit or is xom just being a dick again?
