The problem with throwing nets is that the monsters you want to hold are either high HD or pack monsters, but either way the nets are useless. And of course things that aren't high HD or pack monsters don't need to have throwing nets used on them.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Trapping a pack monster in a narrow corridor could be useful, I guess, since it'd slow down the whole pack.

Its usually better to throw another javalin in the monsters face or get the hell out of there.

Oh, I mean for getting out of there. The net will give you a couple of turns to gain some distance.

If you need distance, that implies the pack monster is faster than you and/or has a ranged attack. I suppose it might help to trap an elf conjurer in a hallway to keep the rest of the elves behind, but if the monster is already faster than you, a few turns from netting isn't going to buy much time. And if you're running from a same-speed melee creature and you already have distance, you don't need the net at all.

I can imagine it being useful if the monster is the same speed but has already closed the distance?

Though I guess you shouldn't really let that happen in the first place.

I didn't think the devs were serious about this:

They can't use weapons or armor. Any. At all. No, that doesn't mean they can throw things. They can't. I... I'm not really sure what to do with them. Kinda' neat, but... seriously? Rings as the only source of resist (besides gods, I guess)? That's some serious gimpage going down. They're not even good assassins, since stab damage is crap with unarmed attacks. Maybe one of their mutations makes that work differently? I'unno.

Gonna' give it a few runs and see how it goes, I guess.

Some felinae races, a bit similar to Tigermen found in Dwarf Fortress, etc.. could have been interesting with their own special abilities, but normal cats that are crippled by only major disadvantages what is the point ?

Instead of wasting code for that, they should improve the current boring races (demigods by example) into something more interesting and fun to play instead of races that are just apparently made as some kind of joke.

Cats are easy in the early game. I cleared the mines and lair pretty quickly. They're basically small trolls with a Halfing's metabolism and extra lives. They can't wear anything, except jewelry. And they can't wield anything. Cats are pretty frail. I got killed in one hit while at full health early on. It's pretty funny to watch a house cat kill a hydra.

Crawl is up to something.

D:1, and I just found, >200-ish tunrs in, a Randart with no drawbacks, and everything about it directly helps this Deep Elf Wizard.

EDIT: And, hey, a potion of Int on D:2.

EDITEDIT: Fuck you, crawl. Sigmund + Fuckton of orcs waiting right next to the stairs in D:4

Yea, see last edit.

While you were making that post, I was being dicked over.

I blame you for this.
