Woah.

Is it just me, or do potions of Cure Mutation become extremely common after you've just picked up a good mutation?  And ridiculously rare if you have a bad one (I've gone from D:5 through Snake, Orc, Lair, Swamp and part of Vaults with the same Slow Healing mutation).  Furthermore, the one time you don't upgrade your intelligence early as a TrBe is the one time a degen happens to hit your intelligence for -4.

When you roll the dice 1000 times, even if you only have a 1 in 1000 chance of losing, you'll eventually lose.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Nope, he's right. As you roll more, the chance of losing approaches infinity. No way around that. You only have about a 63% chance of losing with a thousand rolls and a 1/1000 chance of losing, though.

So all these people who claim to have escaped with the Orb are a bunch of liars, because Xom will hit you with unavoidable death before that ;D

Huh my first mixed group of yaks and death yaks.
Hmm...

Edit: Nevermind. I got surrounded by orcs while fleeing.

In Dungeon Crawl, if you have a 1 in 1000 chance of losing, you'll lose 9 times out of 10.

Just had the most ridiculously food-scarce game; I did not find one permanent food item even though I got down to level 11, almost nothing that could leave a corpse did, those that did leave corpses were contaminated and made me sick rather than fed me. I spent almost the entire game at starving or near-starving, occasionally getting up to very hungry. Finally died to a troll because when you are starving you cannot cast spells.

Ring of sustain abilities or potion of cure mutation would be gold in your situation.
Otherwise you could quaff a potion of mutation and hope it goes away.

Otherwise sorry, no idea.

oder
Danke, Doktor von Braun :D

No, seriously, those are the ideas I had.

What about wearing that amulet of "resist mutation"? Does the prevent ALL mutations or only negative ones? Because... I could wear that when drinking moar potions of mutation.

What about a deity? Could I have picked one that helps me getting cured?

edit: also, FUCK YOU crawl. I think ALL the troll monks I played picked up that mutation. surely, that must be coincidence...  ::)

Amulets of resist mutation resists all mutation. It'd just be too easy otherwise. As for gods, I think Jiyva and Elyvilon (or was it Zin?) give you the ability to rid yourself of bad mutations at very high piety, but it'll take time for them to start liking you enough. That probably shouldn't be your primary plan.

Well, I put on that amulet and drank another potion, and all I grew antennae... which, at least for a troll, are beneficial... no bad mutations happened.

It's Zin. Primary way of dealing with mutations is to not get mutations :P

There's some nice ones, but most ways of getting mutations are heavily biased toward negative ones. Legendary Helix cards and Jiyva are about the only two I remember that don't basically aim to screw you sideways. Every single other source of mutation leans toward negative, though things like the potion or alter self doesn't lean as far as eating a mutative corpse or getting hit by a shining eye or whatever (Hostile mutation effects have pretty much a 100% chance to be negative these days.). You can luck out and get good ones, but... it's not likely, and if you do, the RNG was just merciful. Expect Nikola at D:6 ::)

Basically, the only thing that's got a good chance of actually getting non-character-raping mutations are demonspawn :-\

Actually, Zin has a one off "Cure all mutations" while Jiyva has a reusable "Cure bad mutations".

Haven't actually ever made a serious attempt to play with Jiyva.  I could have go at it with a troll (since they barely need items and can basically carry their stash anyway).
