In this specific case, a Minotaur Chaos Knight, currently level 8 with a +1 chain mail as my best armour and armour skill of 5.

But I was also asking in a more general way, as this mutation seems to come up a lot when drinking un-Id'd potions and they turn out to be Mutation.

No matter what you do, I'd keep armour skill on. You get bonus AC from non-body armor pieces with high armor skill, and you never know when you'll find good heavier-and-better-then-RoR armor.

Me, I'd start wearing a robe unless you're worshiping Makhleb.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Likely because with Makhleb's powers you're going to be a quasi-mage.

One of the big draws of wearing a robe is to be able to cast magic. Casting penalties to heavy armors are so insane that you would have a hard time casting good spells even in the extreme endgame. Makhkleb's big draw is the ability to cast spells wearing GDA.

Ok, the big draw is the whole "healing-on-kills", but casting spells in GDA is very much second. Of course, since that's all that you get, I guess it's not much of a contest.

I once had a ghoul.

It was one of my best character, it was wounded to 1 health and started to rot.

Evasion is better at reducing the amount of damage you take than AC/GDR. You should only wear heavy armor if your character is terrible at dodging (ogres). Minotaurs aren't bad at dodging, so I'd wear light armor.

While that's true, challenge games can be fun. Some people like playing EEs or Ogres. Oddly enough, Ogre EEs are actually pretty good in trunk ever since they allowed sandblasting with huge boulders... but more importantly, ogre and troll EEs start with a few huge boulders, too.

Or maybe that was just hunters. I'm actually not sure.

Ok, turning invisible should NOT make orcs throw spears at each other quite so much :P.

Plus, I've got two of the lamest gifts ever from Okawaru.  The first was a cap.  Which does nothing at all, except provide a potential place for 2 more enchant armours (yeah, I'm not enchanting a vanilla cap).  So, I was glad when he gave me an artifact cap... only to find out that it's the "+0 Cap Waex" which does nothing except reduce my EV by 2.  Considering I've just found an artifact ring in a shop with EV-6, I have a feeling Okawaru's telling me that over 30 EV is unfair :P.

Orcs actually hate each other so much that the presence of a player somewhere in the dungeon is the only thing that rally the Orcs together.
Once they believe the player is not anymore in the dungeon, they resume killing each other.

Well, wow. This is the furthest I've ever gotten a character. Swamp and Shoals were a total breeze, the Elven Halls, however, consumed almost all my resources. I think I need to go and gain some more XP and work myself up to casting Alister's Intoxication and Haste, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Can anyone offer me some advice on what to do now?

You cleared Elf:7 at level 19? I'm actually quite impressed. Most sane people would of cleared Vaults:1-7 before clearing the deathtrap that is Elf:7. At this point, you could probably go clear out Vaults:8, dive down to Zot:5 and just win the game, possibly with a brief sidetrip to Crypt and Blade to get some extra loot and exp.

Huh. It wasn't particularly difficult, actually. While I did have to use two Heal Wounds potions and perhaps 5 charges in my Wand of Healing (how much HP does it cost to use the Deep Dwarf recharge ability, by the by?), my biggest problem were the Priests, which would drop Smites on me. For the most part I got things lined up in a corridor and dropped Freezing Cloud from my Wand of Destruction on them, summoning an occassional Greater Demonic Servant from Makhleb when things were going a bit badly.

I did have to emergency teleport twice, but that was only when confronted with a summoned Executioner. He was the reason behind two of the Healing Wand charges being expended, due to my Blink scrolls being burned out by a casting of Sticky Flame (which was responsible for another charge).

For the most part I was able to drop Freezing Clouds on two or three of the elves in the treasure room at a time.

Swamp 5 and Shoals 5 were incredibly easy for the character, and I went through all of Elf:7 before I took on the big room. Individually and even in groups the common elf spawns weren't a problem.

I believe DD recharging costs 1 MP.
