1k turns?
-insert amazed whistle-

Lately, Sigmund has become way less of a problem than that damned Pikel. And Pikel ISN'T EVEN THE HARD PART.
It's all his stupid slaves.

That's probably an exaggeration. But I had to eat more than once during the fight. And I don't know if enemies have mana proper..but it basically boiled down to just me, my ghost and Mara's illusions wailing on each other for a few dozen turns. And him with a Demon Trident of Flaming no less.

You were doing well if you survived that long against him...  I always dealt with him by going for a quick kill before he started cloning everything in sight.

And I always explore every floor unless I see a specific reason not to (I probably wouldn't explore, say, Zot: 5 fully, heh).

No, like I said, I'm cheating. I died several dozen times to him before I went to the wiki and it gave me some tips that finally won it out. Like de-equipping good stuff before he creates your illusion so it doesn't violate you. Healing potions curing mislead. Resist potions and an amulet of stasis.

This is why I'm cheating though. I just saved myself six months of "how the fuck do I....?" in a real run.

The easiest way of dealing with Mara if you don't have Sticky Flame/ Berserk is just to run away.

Also, does Controlled Blink work with stealth moves?  Just thought it'd be pretty awesome to land right next to a sleeping monster and take it out...

Makhleb demands blood, and Mara's blood is what he got. Along with a swimming pool full of my own. I think I must have hit some massive Illusion shrine. It was Mara, then a large square room, lava tiles, tons of Rhaksasha. Spriggan, two vampire knights, and then an illusion statue behind a stone wall and at the end of a causeway.

The illusion statue was almost worse than Mara.

It is so funny that the way to beating this game is by being the worst coward possible :P

No, no, no. Mara has way too much health to Sticky Flame. Spellcasters in general make bad Sticky Flame targets since they can just shoot you while you run away. I tried Sticky Flaming her and running. I nearly died. Twice. The third time I didn't play around: I just shot Orbs of Destruction at her from far away. When she made illusions, I shot her with Mystic Blast. It only took 2 IOoD's and a single Mystic Blast to kill her. Of course, that's how much crap it took to take down Boris, too, so whatever.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Well, I did sticky flame him and then cast OoD and Mystic Blast at him wildly, so I didn't really know how much damage it was doing.  I guess I just got lucky that Mara didn't clone himself :/.

I find that when the battle ends 5 turns later due to IOoD and Mystic Blast (or whatever, not dissing Poison Arrow or Blade Hands or whatever you want to use to kill things), that the Sticky Flame damage was inconsequential. It only gets worse when you consider that many late-game nasties partially or fully resist fire.

The best way to kill Mara is to hit her hard and fast, before she clones you. Either spamming Iron Shots while hasted or going berserk and killing her with a holy weapon.

No, like I said, I'm cheating. I died several dozen times to him before I went to the wiki and it gave me some tips that finally won it out. I'm glad that those tip sections were useful to someone.  :)

Yes.

I haven't actually fought Mara yet, but perhaps spammed Sticks to Snakes with arrows would be your best bet. Tons of targets to clone, they are individually fairly weak, yet they all poison. Oh, and the high speed is a nice plus too.

Not sure if summoning is a great idea... the mindmessing effect could be catastrophic.

Well, obviously, but would it be a problem since all you are doing is summoning snakes? Now I gotta do some wizardry playing and test this out.

Edit: Alright, 90 arrows, plain, straight 20 in all skills, CL 12 with 19 int, I was just doing this quick, vs Mara.

Did reasonable damage for a second level spell, but due to the nature of the snakes and Mara's poison immune status, it didn't kill. However, I suspect that mixing in some other things, scorpions maybe, it could succeed.

Some interesting things I noticed. While misled, at least on the tiles version, you still know which are allies and which aren't, and Mara is always labeled. Likewise, enemies will never have that little heart.

It should be noted that I had no other spells other then spammals and Sticks to snakes, so clones of myself obviously would be nearly worthless. Still, summon floods do seem to have potential if you can keep them going long enough.

Further note. If you know spammals, your clones know spammals too, and cast the non nerfed version.
