I have 5 runes now and enough money to enter a ziggurat. I never cleared one before and my last few attempts didn't end well (corrupted save file and death by sleepiness at Zig:21 :-[). Should I enter go for the glory or should I get the other runes and leave?

Don't do it.

Doing things is bad. The probability of dying would be much higher.

There's no reason not to try a ziggurat except that they're very hard. Just make sure to ditch when things get rough. And don't carry anything you won't need, it's easy to get burdened with loot in there.

If you can delay going down until later, though, I would highly recommend doing so. Clear out as much of the rest of the dungeon as you can. You need as much loot and exp as you can muster.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

You have firestorm.  Ziggurats are a freaking shooting gallery.  Annihilate the weaklings, and claim their souls for...

for...

Wait, who are you worshiping now?

You can evolve a ballistomycete (the things that cover the level in the wake of those spore bombs) into a hyperactive ballistomycete. Those explode every few turns, damaging everything in the area, including themselves. And they spawn inactive ballistomycetes. Quite useful in some situations.

Really?  That's new.  Before they used to just turn into more wandering mushrooms.

I'll have to try that now...

Use his rotting ability to decompose corpses.

Decomposition also works on zombies (turns them into skeletons) and ghouls (turns them into DEAD).  I've used it a couple times on that Kikubaaqudgha shrine that pops up now and then, where you can see a human get gassed and then resurrected as a zombie?  I just walk up to the glass and then pop a decomposition for the heck of it.

Apparently, sometimes the poor human survives the damage and doesn't turn into a zombie.

A base human stuck inside a cloud of miasma?  I somehow find that difficult to believe.

Now, of course, if there were some way of getting him out of there...  Like, say, Dig?  If you just approach the shrine from behind, it might not trigger quite so quickly.  Then you can tunnel in and get him out of there before it's too late!

I swear Nemelex hates me.  Every time I'm in a hard battle, the decks of summonings draw 3 crusade cards in a row followed by a hostile Herd or Foxfire.

I actually got lucky on a Crusade draw one time.  Ended up netting me an orcish priest and wizard combo.  Still though, it's much more common for Crusade to be mostly useless.

Nothing like a good abjuration when you're wandering the Elven Halls though...
