Playing a hill orc priest. Found the +6,+4 whip of Ragnarok {speed rElec rC+ rN+}. Currently wielding a great sword of slicing, of unknown enchantment. Only have two sword skill. Does the whip have enough pluses to be worth switching to?

I found a +6 plate mail of ponderousness pretty early. And an orcish follower with a mace of distortion. It sure is nice having him on my side. Morbeogh started as a faceless mook, and has advanced to orc warrior. I know I shouldn't grow attached to my orcs, but I can't help it! :D

And now he became a knight! Hooray! :D

Oh, dear. I walked into a bailey, and managed to teleport into an inaccessible ledge. I don't know how to get out! D:

No, wait, here's a teleport trap. Excellent.

Alas, there was a hostile orc knight between me and the exit. Dead. :(

This spriggan assassin is going interestingly.  I gained spellcasting skill from scrolls, and found the book of party tricks.  I spammed Butterflies a bit so it's now very good (only took the xp from a snake or two...) and am now trying to get Projected Noise up to a good level.  Heh, try chasing a spriggan through butterflies!

But it kinda sucks that there are no gods who are particularly good for stealth based characters...

Oddly, Zin is actually looking like a good choice.  His protection and sustenance could be helpful, and being a spriggan means I dodge all the annoying stuff about cannabalism.  He also seems to not object to underhand methods of fighting like TSO does.

I don't know if Projected Noise has gained any degree of usefulness lately, but I'd suggest waiting a bit before committing to it.  Maybe Doc Feelgood could share some slightly more experienced light on the matter.

As for gods, I'd really suggest Nemelex Xobeh.  Nemelex is usually awesome, and Spriggans have the best aptitude for evocations, which is what card usage is based off of.  Their invocations (used for Zin's powers, as well as most other gods) leave a little something to be desired.

Trog could also grant some interesting benefits.  A berserking Spriggan is something to be rightly feared...  But most of his abilities put a pretty heavy cost on your stomach.

Yredelemnul can give you a use for all those corpses that you won't be eating, although the zombies wouldn't have a chance in hell of keeping up with you (but you can use the "recall" ability to have them suddenly show up to protect you or gang up on a victim).  The minion gifts are generally pretty nice, and life draining is always good fun.

EDIT:  Oh, one thing I forgot about...  You can occasionally confuse enemies with Zin's preaching.  Attacking a confused enemy can deal extra damage via the stabbing skill, which assassins usually have in spades.  You can also bore them to sleep.

EDIT2:  Alright, I gots a question for ya 'sperienced types...  I'm currently running a deep dwarf geomancer whose goal is to eventually start worshiping Yredelemnul.  I've been relatively lucky so far, and I ended up getting a pretty decent dagger of venom early on that I could supplement my casting with.  I just reached level 6, and I'm trying to figure out which spell to memorize next.  I'm looking at Stone Arrow, Lee's Rapid Deconstruction, and Summon Elemental.  I've got two points in spellcasting, three points in transmutation (on the cusp of becoming 4), and seven in Earth magic.  I've got Sandblast and Stoneskin memorized.

My first thought was to get Stone Arrow, but Sandblast has been serving me remarkably well.  I've got 80+ stones that I'm working off of right now, and I'm at the point where I can nuke a giant gecko or sometimes a hobgoblin in one go (which is good, because I've only got two tiles of range).  I'm wondering if it's still worth picking that over the other options at the moment.

I have absolutely no experience with Lee's Deconstruction, but the description seems to indicate that it might be of assistance against certain statues or other monsters later on.  And from what I can gather, it basically serves as a grenade explosion for whenever you're near a wall (which is most of the time).

It was my intention to delve into elemental summoning at some point, and my wiki research seems to indicate that I currently have a 100% chance of summoning a friendly earth elemental, which, y'know, is nice.  However, I haven't got any skill in summoning and the spell looks to be rather difficult to cast.

Any recommendations?  I've also got Passwall in this book, but I figured that it probably wasn't going to help me as much as the others.

Well, if you go elemental, with a 7 in earth, you will always summon a friendly elemental. Likewise, it lets you dig, albeit slowly. However, it is a summoning spell, and with no skill in summoning, you may have some problems casting it consistently.

Deconstruction is similar, but acts as a direct fire weapon as opposed to support. Also allows digging.

Honestly, I'd go Stone Arrow. It would give you a nice range increase, let you save the rocks, and would leave two free slots so you only need another 2 to learn elemental.

Actually I've got six slots at the moment, and stone ammunition isn't a problem.  Like I said, I've got at least...

Scratch that, I've got 53 stones.  Damn.  I had ninety not that long ago.  I guess I run through them faster than I thought.

Turn off earth and transmutation, get another level of spellcasting, and snag stone arrow and elemental.

Alright, done and done.

I think the stone arrow was indeed a good investment.  Ended up taking down an ogre after softening it up from afar.  Don't think that encounter would have gone too well with just Sandblast...  And I'm still blasting certain enemies, when they get close or when I run out of mana.

Unfortunately, my summoning attempts are going a bit badly.  I actually managed to get profoundly lucky again when I discovered the staff I picked up some time ago was actually a Staff of Wizardry.  But even with that, I still haven't gotten a single successful Elemental Summoning...  I've summoned plenty of other stuff though.

Summoning miscasts are pretty nasty.  First there was a spatial vortex that was just wandering around, then I got most of my health sucked away by a tear in the fabric of reality, then I summoned an abomination in the square adjacent to me, then I called forth thee minor demons in the tiles surrounding me...

I'm scared to see what else will come of this.

EDIT:  I also just picked up a Book of Stalking.  Mephitic Cloud looks nice, as always, but I think that would be spreading my skills just a wee bit too thin.

EDIT2:  Did I mention that the abomination is permanent and won't leave the level?

I just started a Merfolk Crusader. So far, I've found 6 packs of jackels and some runed Naga barding on the first level. I'm already level 3. Found a shield though.

Edit: As an idiot, I keep trying to cast spells with the shield on, and wonder why I can't. Oh well, nonfatal mistake.

Edit2: I found a gnoll called Crazy Yiuf in a forest. Evidently, as bad as Sigmund.

Well, crap.  Attempted to train Summon Elemental inside a corridor, ended up summoning three spatial vortexes.  I was surrounded, and one of them bumped into me by accident.  I died instantly.

Well, this dude was kind of on his last legs anyways...  My only long-term plan for healing was Yredelemnul's life draining, and ol' Yred wasn't too keen on giving me any of that any time soon.  I was completely out of potions of healing and heal wounds, and I'd already sacrificed one permanent mana point in order to give three more feeble charges to my wand of healing.  And he still had on that cursed -2 ring of intelligence.  It simply was not meant to be.

Well, I beat Crazy Yiuf. Would have died, but he healed me to full health with one of his swings. Now I've got a buckler which doesn't interfere too badly with casting, a Xom superweapon, nice levels, a decent stash of food, and plenty of poison darts. I'm gonna die aren't I?

I love it when Yiuf heals or hastes you with one of his shots.

Alright, this seems to be a high powered dive. +2 str ring, +4 ev ring, just found a Book of Transfigurations(thats the high end one), and tons of food. I just went down to DL 4, CL is already 4, and I ran into 7 goblins and hobgoblins. I'm not sure where this is going, but I like.

Edit: Yay, Pikel, the slaver.

You can *never* go wrong with Mephitic Cloud. Sigmund, ogres, snakes, they all become a joke when you hit them with this baby. It's the main reason I think wizards are better than elementalists (though high spellcasting at start doesn't hurt either).

God, I can't tell what to do with this run. Just quaffed a random potion I had two of hoping for healing, and got quick healing, +1dex-1str, and +1 ac scales. Found 4 ogres and an orcish spellcaster cadre so far. Things have never been this high powered for me before.
