Nah, the main problem is that it's so random. You often get jackals even with high spell power. When you get wolves, though, it kicks ass.

Plus there is a chance for a Hostile Canine.

The chance is pretty much zero if you have like 5 Spellcasting and Summoning. Which you should easily have by the time you need it, because Canine Familiar should be the last spell you memorize (possibly second to last, Slow being last).

Actually, I'm not sure how great the missile deflection would be as a summoner.  The whole point of being a summoner towards the start is that you don't let people shoot you :P.

But you are not a pure summoner. You are a summoner with conjurations. And early summons are kind of sucky. Thus, you have versatility. Sometimes it's mephitic cloud, sometimes its rat swarm, and sometimes its' cloud + swarm.

Another thing: missile protection provides a handy way to train enchantments. Which you will want to extend spells, and controlled amnesia.

Yeah, I use magic dart much more than spammals. I might be misremembering, but I think that kills from summons only give half the experience. And when Sif Muna starts giving me books, more than half my spells end up being conjuration based. I mostly treat summons as escape spells (god bless spammals), but now and then I'll raise a dog horde to help me with a unique.

Oh yeah, missile protection rules generally.  I tend to get it later on, and spam it to get Haste/ Selective Amnesia/ Deflect Missiles/ Extension (although I've never actually found Extension.  Odd).

Found Labyrinth entrance in Lair, should I enter? I have a ring of sustenance and stash with a fair amount of food, so I probably won't starve to death, but is it worth it?

Would you fight a single minotaur for 1/4 of the Slime vault loot?

Yes.

Labyrinth isn't that hard, just frustrating if the rng keeps changing the path to the exit.

Remember a few things: the walls get harder as you get closer to the exit (you can only tunnel through the walls furthest away from the exit), your map will slowly degrade, and any tiles you aren't watching are subject to change. The game's algorithm makes sure there's always a path to the center though, just keep following the harder walls.

So you don't go asking forum communities for help with your decisions, of course.

If it's not a path to a permanent branch, it'll go away. But generally, unless you run into the labyrinth very early and have very little power and food, it's worth the trip.

Holy shit.

I just took one step too far towards a pair of statues by accident, and before I knew it I was surrounded by all sorts of horrible stuff.  I managed to break free and lose my confusion, but got my intellect drained to 0.

First statdeath ever :/.

I kinda expected Orb of Destruction to be a bit more, you know, destructive. What a waste of 7 spell slots. Oh well, I'm dead anyway, next time I'll pick Poison Arrow instead.
