I did quite a bit of messing around, and yes, Ice Form is better in every way bar one - if you're in, say, Elf, or any area with lots of wizards, the enemies are liable to flame attack you.  You don't last long like this in ice form... I stuck to Alastair's and Blade Hands in Elf.

Although there is one more advantage of Ice Form - HYDRAS.

I'd want all three of Blade Hands, Ice Form, and Spider Form. Ice Form rocks in Shoals (amphibiousness and the fact Aquamancers shoot ice bolts), Swamp (rPois, amphibiousness, not chopping off hydra heads, and most things are rPois themselves), and Snake (rPois and everything's rPois themselves).

Spider Form is good at the beginning (it's fairly easy to cast and few enemies at the beginning rPois). It's also good for escaping and kiting.

Blade Hands is really good in Crypt and Tomb (undead have rPois, rC, and rN) and a general thing to occasionally switch to when Lichform isn't appropriate.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Cleared the vestibule to hell. Now I'm using it as yet another stash. Once I clear down to Zot I'll move both of my stashes from hive and lair to hell, for convenience.

Still trying to decide what two other runes I'm going to go for. I've found hell, the abyss, pandemonium, as well as cleared a little ways into slime and almost cleared Shoal. I'll probably go after the Shoal rune, since I could almost do that one at 17. I figure if I come back at 25 or so it should be fairly easy. The third one is hard though, no rNeg yet so hell would be tricky, and pandemonium is a real gamble. While going through slime I ruined my gloves and lost the enchant on my helm, even through an amulet of conservation and a cloak of preservation, so I'd rather not go through there. That leaves the abyssal rune, which I might be able to do since I have more food than I know what to do with (yay carnivore 1) and the crypt, which I'd rather not do since I have no way to get patsies to kill the mummies. Hmm... choices.

I like that you put things in hell for convenient access.

It might help if we knew where you've been so far, and what branches there are. Surely there is one branch of hell you could do.

I'm narrating and asking for advice. I'm not sure which branches would be most viable. I have resist cold level 2 mutation, so Cocytus is most viable short of the rN. Likewise, my platemail has resist fire so Ghenna might be doable as well. I picked up a randart necklace with a little rN, so it might be doable. But I'm still torn, the abyssal or pandemonium runes might be easier to get, especially since I also got slow metabolism so food would be less of an issue.

As for where I've been, I've done orc, lair, hive, and swamp, plus the first four levels of shoal. I'm on dungeon 27 now. I'll probably go back up to vault and then do elf for experience before going after Zot:1-4 and then getting my two remaining runes.

Edit: Just got a helmet with rN+, so that takes me up to rN++

Just make sure you're aware that when you pick up the Orb of Zot, all the portals in the dungeon will close. Specifically, you won't be able to go back into Hell.

Personally, I'd clear out Elf for the loot. Take it really slow. All of the Elves in Elf:7 are very dangerous. Bring a source of Warding and as much resistance as you can get spread out fairly evenly. If things start to go South because of the summons, flee. After that, I'd take on Shoals. Shoals is easier than Elf, but I've died so often in Shoals it's gotten me paranoid. After that, I'd suck it up and clear out Slime. Skip Tomb. The loot's good, but the rotting damage is crazy. It's a good use of all those otherwise useless potions of healing, I guess, but still. All the Torment and Smiting and Sphinxes and rotting and shit, it's just not fun. After that, I'd probably do Dis. Dis'll be pretty easy with a +9 eveningstar of holy wrath with high M+F skill. Then Cocytus if I had rC+++, then Gehenna if I had rF+++, then Tartarus if I had rN+++. At some point in all that (likely in Elf), I'd of gotten banished, so I'd scum the Abyss until I found the Abyssal Rune.

Conservation only saves items from flat out destruction. Pretty sure it has no effect on corrosion. Remember, artifacts and +5 items are immune to corrosion. Dwarven items and crystal plate mail don't get corroded 4/5ths of the time. rCorr saves 9/10ths of the time. +4 saves 98% of the time. All of these stack. And if you worship Jivya, you're free to loot Slime:6 at your leisure.

In fact, since Okawaru's wrath is ridiculously wimpy, strongly consider ditching him now that's he's given you a bunch of weapons and armor. If you've got good armor in all your slots and a good main weapon (hint: you do), you're not missing out on much. Might and Haste are useful, but TSO is more useful. If you start with Zin, you can waltz into Tomb, take a bunch of rotting damage, then cure it with vitrolization and cure all your mutations before ditching him for TSO or Elyvion. If you don't need mutations cured, just skip right to worhipping TSO, then liberally spam Daevas in Tomb. Sure, you'll lose a bunch of piety for spamming them, but you gain a bunch of piety for killing Mummies and the demons they'll summon. You will take some rotting damage, but it's not like your potions of healing are useful for anything else. If you need more good god piety, just go to the Abyss and walk around eating food and killing demons.

Also, it slows down snakes.  Which is always nice.

Also, is Dragon Form any good now?  I just ask since it's so inherently awesome.

Is it silly that I used about 8 scrolls of immolation in Lair?

Of course I have fire resistance, but they were incredibly helpful.

What impresses me more is that you found 8 scrolls of immolation. I've only found three so far.

My last run was very strange. Lots and LOTS of cursed items, paper scrolls, scrolls of cursed weapon/armor, potions of poison, etc.

Shoulda been a transmuter. All those potions of poison and confusion would have been useful.
