Those class removal is really sad, instead of reinventing those classes specifics to make them different from each other, they just delete the ones that have too much similarity.
If thiefs are just weaker assassins by example for now, why not give something that would be specific to thiefs.
By example thieves being all about stealing why not give a little gold each time they kill a monster ?
While assassin that is all about murdering would get a slight bonus in the stabbing damage current cap ?
These would make thieves and assassin already different.

Death Knight being Necromancer with sword, to fix that just remove the possibility of being a necromancy oriented death knight and leave only the Death Knight servant of Yredelemnul with only and to get it even more different, only undead character could access this, like only a living character can be a Paladin.

I hope the dev team will consider tweaking the classes instead of plain removing some of them.

Gold on monster killing wouldn't fit in.
All the jobs are meant to affect only your starting stats and equipment, not give you special abilities unique from everyone else.

Yeah.

TBH, if they remove classes, they'd better add more features as a compensation.

BTW: I have been playing necros instead of DKs for a while, so here's a hint for a jumpstart: turn off all your training skills, and get a dagger asap. Blast monsters with pain, aid yourself with the dagger. As soon as you get short blades, you can turn on spellcasting and necromancy. The beggining of the game is tougher than with DKs, given that the Pain spell hurts you as well as your target (this is specially bad when you get sick, and dont regenerate HP). Once you get a few levels and thus get HP and MP to spare, it becomes a kickass spell, though, as you can recast when its resisted and its powerful enough to kill an orcish mage in two hits.

I'd also recommend picking vampiric drain as your first spell. After that, dispel undead.
So yeah, the best way to play a necro is to ditch early undeadifying spells, but since you cannot bring them from level to level, and are fairly weak anyway, it doesnt matter too much. The raise zombies spell might be worth a shot if you have the spell slots to spare and dont have anything better in which to spend them. But probably not. It's better to butcher corpses for food.

BTW: I agree, the gold on monster doesnt fit. However, keeping death knights as antipaladins of Ydremuul does.

I think wizard all classes should start with a dagger or knife.

Really, it's very stupid when you pick up a -lots cursed knife right at the beggining, and are thus doomed.

They used to, but then the Devteam decided to take away the starting knife for mages.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

what reason did they give?

For non-mages is even worse btw. A mage stucked with a cursed -lots knife can still butcher corpses and use its main damage dealing spells. What does a spear gladiator do in that situation? (answer: die at the hands of a bat)

Yeah, it actually doesn't matter for a spellcaster.  Wielding a dagger doesn't provide any penalty to spellcasting.

It is, on the other hand, horrible for guys using stabbing or crushing weapons.  It's also bad for transmuters/ monks (as in, exit and start the game again bad).

Here's a tip for if you pick up a -lots dagger: go up stairs and escape. Unless you have some sort of objection to giving up when you're in a hopeless situation, you can get rid of the dagger without leaving behind another ghost to deal with.

I updated my article.

what reason did they give?

It's a nerf to make things harder for spell casters early on. And it makes item identification more important.

The only time I abort is when I've somehow managed to start with a wrong character.

Hopeless situation?  CHARGE ON, TO DEATH AND GLORY!

I quit if I get that D:1 entry vault with mushrooms blocking the way because its actually faster than killing the fungi. Otherwise, I'll carry on.

I really hope they leave in Ydremul's death knights. Those are very different from necros

Is Okawaru's altar supposed to be in the temple? I initially meant to go Elyvilon then TSO, but Elyvilon was underwhelming and I haven't gained any Evocations skill from disintegrating weapon, which was my only reason for going that path. Okawaru would be the ideal god, but I can't find his altar in the temple.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Click here for the rest of it.

I played this combo for an easy win after losing an ogre hunter on Zot:5.  :-[ At least my win rate isn't too bad now. Oh, and I updated my article (dev tip).  :)

Priests can choose Yred at the start.

If Okawaru's altar isn't in the temple, then it's somewhere between D:2-9.
