Darts of dispersal are great when facing a small number of powerful opponents you want to tackle at range. Like a low-level halfling assassin against a lone ogre or something. As soon as it gets too close for your liking, blink it elsewhere and resume pelting it with poison needles.

Awesome hat
Especially so because now I can't stop picturing a slug just sitting there, wearing a full-size hat, and pondering.

I especially enjoyed the 'enchanted against salt, not that you care' part.

I just had a fairly good run as a Spriggan venom mage, ending only when I miscast Venom Bolt and took 36 damage. I was doing pretty well, even killing a named monster (Edward, I think) with mephetic cloud and sting.

EDIT: My current Spriggan Venom Mage is doing even better, but would Sif Muna or Vehumet be a better choice of god?

Sif vs Vehumet is a bit of a personal taste thing. I usually pick Vehumet, but some people swear by Sif.

I just go with which ever I run into first. If I get to the temple though I pick Sif because of the protection from miscast for when I want to learn spells from a new school.

Sif is unambiguously better for the undead who don't have to worry about hunger as they spam energy channeling. In other cases, really a matter of personal preference. I like Sif, myself. Pick whichever, neither is bad.

I prefer Sif as well, you can never have too wide selection of spells.

In unrelated news, it's a bad idea to fight a fire giant while in ice form. Dammit, I really didn't expect him to throw a friggin' fireball (first fire giant for me).

Finally, my long run with a Kobold Assassin reached its end, in the Vault but what a nice fun it was.

Okawaru granted him considerable amount of dart and needles, while i hoped some weapons, it never happened.
At some point he even gave me a cloak but i prefered to not wear it as it lowered my damages (that were great to stab).
The game was very avare in giving me teleportation and blink or even health/wound healing potions, they were extremely rare scroll unlike some of my other run in which i was swimming into a sea of them with dozen of each potions.

The stabbing extreme damage thanks to my self-enchanted dagger (never found a better one unfortunately) was really great, killed many sleeping monsters (great stealth ability+armor making me even stealthier helped a lot) that would have been difficult to deal with otherwise.

Even managed to kill Saint Rocka, the most difficult battle, but thanks to the many wands i had and the lots of god given needles and darts, i managed to put him down but it was the most close to death battle i had as i won only thanks to a few heal wound potions and Saint Rocka becoming paralysed at some point from a dart, letting the heavy poison he was suffering from to hit him.
The Dispersal darts really came in handy in this battle.

At some point i "gained" a mutation, most likely result of some battle as i didn't noticed, but my kobold was urged to scream from time to time, and playing a lot on stealth, it was very hard at some point to approach long distance undetected or recover by resting.

In the Orc Mines, i encountered Kirke, after running from her several time transformed as a Hog, i managed to use a transformationr wand that changed her into some kind of giant that couldn't resist to my very accurate dagger.
Without that wand i doubt it would have been possible to defeat her, as she was not stopping changing me into some stupid harmless Hog.

And finally, finding the Vault i decided to explore it.
Unfortunately, far i saw Xtahua.
I thought i had time to reach the stair as he was far, but i was wrong, Xtahua breathed fire in my direction once, and i was at full health... and killed me in 1 shot !

Killed from afar by Xtahua (94 damage)
... with a blast of flame

94 damage in just his 1st shot at me !
my poor 91 health point couldn't do anything. The stair was near, i had teleportation and blinking, but why use them, how could i imagine Xtahua was THAT powerfull ?

Note for later : see Xtahua ? -> teleport and blink out of the way, don't even try something else.

Anyways, great fun, and never hunger was an annoyance like for some other character, as a kobold can eat at any time without being hungry, that's a great help.

You really should have resistances up before going into the Vaults. Also, ditch the ponderous hat.

Might want to check out a kobold enchanter. Sleep + stab does pretty much the same thing as assassin-ing, and expands into enchantments in general. Stealth + stab kinda just hogs exp.

I got one-shotted by a Quicksilver Dragon the same turn it came into view. One guy got two-shotted in one turn by an Ancient Lich casting Crystal Spear twice. Sometimes the game just says "Fuck you, you're dead". It sucks.

It's slightly better now though...  Apparently, in older versions Xom would occasionally decide "okay, you die" and instakill your character.

It only happened if you were being dull, of course, but still...

Xom will still gladly give you randarts that statdeath you, of course.

Of course, in Trunk they're removing statdeath. Rather than instantly kill you, very bad things start happening. 0 Str? No carrying capacity. 0 Dex? No EV. 0 Int? I forget, but I think its confusion.
