Note that if your a summoner after a battle with call imp and no need to eat, fire off call imp a bit and see if you can get some zombies. A few semi perm minions can make all the difference.

Wait, I thought undead don't go down stairs...

Not all undead, just skeletons and zombies. Personally, I prefer not to trust anyone to raise my zombies for me.
My favorite magic schools are Necromancy (Dispel undead rules!) and Enchantments. That's why my favorite god is Kiku...
Anyway, this time I decided to try clearing Orcish Mines right after I found the entrance (because my char turned out to be a mottled draconian with cool sticky flame) and I found 6 named enemies there (Ijub, Edmund, Maurice, Harold, Eustachio and Norbert). I don't remember meeting so many so close. None of them were not too dangerous or resistant to sticky flame, though.

Edit: Gastronok was there too.

Mana as a summoner is a problem. Kind of annoying really.

Sif Muna can solve that problem nicely.

I thought they made it so that if 3 uniques were already generated on a floor, more would have a very high chance of not being generated. That might only be in the current trunk, though, I don't remember. Luckily, of those 6, only Harold and Eustachio are real threats. Lots of free Exp!

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Even if they don't follow you down, you can still use em for the current level, or as backup if you need to fall back while being tailed. Nothing says HI THERE like 4 zombie snakes, specially when Siggy is following.

Okay thanks.

Also, does anyone actually use Sticks to Snakes regularly as a summoner? I see no point in it when I can summon imps without having to wield some sticks first.

Well they were not exactly on one floor (Ijub on 1st, Maurice, Edmund and Gastronok on 3rd, and Harold, Eustachio and Norbert on 4th). Still, that's a lot for such a small branch. Good thing they all burned quite well). And yes, now I have ~5k unallocated exp. Nice.

Wait, Gastronok? I hate that guy. Yeah, he's easy as hell when you have Sticky Flame, but he still pisses me off for some reason. It is nice to have a wizard hat of intelligence, though.

I don't know about you, but I only do Orc after doing Lair. I also usually turn off all my skills except for Dodging, Armour, Shields, and Fighting around the time I see the Orc Mines stairs. After all, which is going to help me more? Another point of mana or another point of EV? A slightly better spell success rate or another point of AC? Raising my damage multiplier or another 4 hit points?

Maybe I should ask, what level do you guys like to be before doing Elf? Some people do Elf:1-6 then come back for 7 later, some people like me do the whole thing in one big go. I know it depends on the character, but I don't find the late elves to be much more dangerous than regular elves if you know Abjuration and have good SH and EV. AC isn't effective vs Iron Bolt and Crystal Spear.

Imagine mammals, but with all of them almost as fast as bats and with a poison bite. Or using clubs/quarterstaffs and getting some of the bigger ones. It's worth carrying a stack of arrows, and if you can get poisoned arrows, well, its good.

And as it also raises your transmutation skill... If you can find a book with Distill and Evaporate, you can fire of a confusion potion, then summon the spammal horde. They'll have an even easier time than normal, and it stops more intelligent enemies going around the mass of rodents you summon.

I had my best run ever with a Deep Elf Wizard that reached level 12 and died on the 15th level of the dungeon, but i admit it this nice progress was -only- because i found a Book of Demonology.

The Summon Horde and Summon Demon spells are frankly astoundingly powerfull once you need something stronger than Call Imps. Before finding that book, i had lots of problems, mostly doing a hit and run tactic as i had a not that powerfull attack spells (magic dart and throw flame), as some monsters were resisting those too easily for my security.
Thanks a bunch to the Mephitic Cloud though, without it i would have certainly died before the 5th floor. It is really a life saver especially in crowded rooms.

I believe easily 80% of the enemies i killed after the 12th Dungeon floor (there were a lots of very nasty ones) would have killed me without the 2 demonic summon  spells.

My character unfortunately met his doom after opening a door to a room surrounded by metal walls, inside of it every tiles was covered by a powerfull hostile monster.
I blinked away and summoned as much demons as possible, it seemed to work very well, and i believe i could have beaten the legion of powerfull monsters with some attrition tactic.
But what i didn't see coming was a red wasp that appeared out of the blue and sadly  stinged me a lot without me noticing at first, i was too focusing on how my legion of demons fared in this huge battle (so tons of battle log to read, i missed stupidly the ones telling me about the sting hitting me repeatedly.)

So basically again a stupid death for an extremely promising character that could have certainly gone deeper.

I wish i had made a backup of the last save before the character died, i would really have liked to see how this big battle between my army of demons and the army of powerfull monster would have ended.

Okay thanks.

Also, does anyone actually use Sticks to Snakes regularly as a summoner? I see no point in it when I can summon imps without having to wield some sticks first.
Imagine mammals, but with all of them almost as fast as bats and with a poison bite. Or using clubs/quarterstaffs and getting some of the bigger ones. It's worth carrying a stack of arrows, and if you can get poisoned arrows, well, its good.

Wait... you can summon snakes with arrows/bolts? If I had known that, I would have used that spell more. I thought I would have to collect clubs, detect curses, equip them, and cast that spell. Took way too long, especially since a summoner's real advantage is overwhelming numbers.

My first experiment with summon elemental summoned a wild wind elemental who killed me. Next time, if I try that again, I'll try it next to a staircase while surrounded by spammals.

Summon elemental is a unique skill. I wouldn't use it as a summoner, but as an elementalist it works wonders.  The numbers work out like

You have a x chance in y for elemental to be friendly, where x is your relevant elemental skill and y is:

    * 5 for earth elemental
    * 15 for air
    * 10 for fire
    * 15 for ice if not merfolk, 5 if merfolk

So, if you can get 5 earth, your golden. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother, far too much risk and training required.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.
