Door mimics are nasty.

I had a scroll mimic almost kill my vampire wizard. I tried to kill it with spells but those buggers can blink and teleport...

Door mimics can move.

Does anyone know the best place to read up on the changes in 0.9?

Some interesting stats about which monsters in 0.8 killed the most people during the tournament that occured in may :
http://crawl11.dyndns.org/killers.html
This is actually amazingly interesting.  For instance, this tells us that The Royal Jelly kills fewer people than Zombie Megabats.

I know it was a little while back, but using imps to counter sigmunds invisibility? Just summon tons of small mammals. The one spot that isn't covered in the little furballs is where he is. Admittedly it isn't really as effective as imps, but it's better than a non-summoners approach, with the exception of mephic cloud, beserking and evaporate.
Or just be a Fire Elementalist.  Y'know, the class with the best form of See Invisible.

That's cause no one in the tournament was crazy enough to try to fight it.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

or maybe because usually the top killer monsters are low levels killers. take the snake, i suppose it was due to poisoning more than for anything else. and at low level, if you're not immune to poison, you're for a painful death. (if you don't have high hps, high poison resistance etcetera) and obviously you can get ganked by hobgoblins. lot's of them.

I've been ganked by hobgoblins so much I honestly want somebody to look into the combat code just to reduce the number of lucky shots they get. There's nothing fun or really challenging about a hobgoblin randomly 1-shotting you because the RNG says so. They should deal 1d3 damage, not "usually 2 but occasionally 8". How exactly am I supposed to stop that as a player? Pillar dance at level one when I'm not at 100% health? Why? It's faster to make a new character than to pillar dance.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Also, at least in the Royal Jelly's case (it being wholly a melee enemy) it is entirely possible that other enemies actually get the killing blow (such as a death jelly summoned when you hurt the royal, or an eye that spawned after you had cleared most of the floor to fight the royal jelly).

Yeah, I know the reasons.  It's not that Zombie Megabats are actually super strong :P.

For kobolds, I guess it's the fact that they sometimes spawn with the electrocution brand early (and poison darts, and wands, and of course the occasional kill on a weakened fleeing player that all early monsters get).

Ooh, just updated my trunk version. We got skalds instead of crusaders now? Whats with the rename?

I just noticed this. Book of War Chants now has Poison Weapon and Shroud of Globuria (A new spell?) instead of Berserker Rage and Silence.

The fact I wanted to make a High Elf Crusader makes this all the more saddening.

From what i have read, it was done because Crusader has a "religious warrior" theme, but in Crawl that crusader character does not come with this kind of theme.

And as his spells looked like what one would expect from a D&D Bard class (spells used to "boost" like the classic Bard chants does), but instead of renaming it Bard or something heroic fantasy similar, they went with the nordic "Skald" name to get it sounding more "exotic" i guess.

Yeah, the new name is kind of weird to me. I don't really think of Crawl crusaders as poets.

"Bards" in D&D are a little more understandable to me because they actually use music and aren't very combat-oriented.
