How do I get this to work in FF3? There doesn't seem to be a network.websocket anything and I don't want to upgrade at this very moment.

I second this. I downgraded back to 3.8 since I highly dislike 4.0, but I can't find network.websocket either.

FF3 doesn't have websockets. Use Chrome. Webtiles work better on it.

Trying out crawl tiles online. I probably won't stick with it since it seems to run pretty slow in Chrome. There also seems to be a few quirks: Shift-Numpad-direction doesn't fire spells, shift-num-5 doesn't rest until healed/full mana. Even numpad5 on its own doesn't wait a single turn, nor can I rebind numpad5 or shift-numpad5 (no response when I attempt to enter it at the 'input default keymap trigger key' prompt when adjusting keymaps).

Are those limitations of online tiles, bugs with Chrome (e.g. if Chrome just doesn't recognize the numpad), or am I doing something wrong?

Edit: Looks like part of it was a result of Numlock being off, but I still can't, for example, shift-direction to fire/throw in that direction, or autorun in that direction. Also, is there some kind of integrated chat online or is that only with telnet clients or IRC?

Lost my best character so far. I'd been cautious about the branches and I was just going to try the top levels of a few when I wasn't cautious enough with a dragon (first encounter with one). I VERY nearly killed it, but I underestimated the power of its breath attack.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All my good characters die around this point due to underestimating a new creature or making a stupid mistake. Any tips on how to proceed from these mid levels?

You've been too cautious with the branches. You can generally do the first 4-5 levels of the lair at around the time you find it. You can certainly clear the first level and leave a stash there to help you the encumbrance problem.

Generally the branch order is something like Lair, hives, orcish mine, lair branches (DO NOT do the last levels) mid to late dungeon.

Of course, that depends a lot on your character. If you aren't good at crowd control and/or don't have rPois, for instance, Hive can be an absolute ass... but if you do, it can be a cakewalk. Also, Orc:4 is a lot harder now, but has guaranteed shops.

Is anybody getting an official Bay 12 team together for the 0.8 tournament? Starts in 3 days.

Somebody should start up a thread for it. I prefer it not to be me because I'm lazy, but I'm definitely interested in playing. My goal: to finally get my first rune (I'm always SO close).

My last experience with treasures troves cost me a dozen of heal wound potion (basically every of them i had ever found on the 27 floors of the main dungeon in this specific game) and inside i found nothing better than what i already had at the point i was able to get a dozen of those rare potions.

Potions i would have then be able to use to save my character life.

So considering the requirement this time, i think i will not even bother :

That's not so bad; you don't have to actually give up the rune.
