Oh, that Xom. Always a laugh.

My deep dwarf is still alive. I've found a whip of electrocution and I've been using it against poison-resistant monsters. I hear the electricity brand can be pretty powerful on a fast weapon. I also have a flail of holy wrath, so training the skill sounds like a decent idea. I'm thinking of doing Orc next.

I also found another scroll of acquirement. The first time I wished for a book and got a manual of throwing. Not really sure what to do with this one. Maybe I'll just stash it away for now.

Do you have wands of haste, teleport, and healing? If you're missing any, wand acquirement has a decent enough chance of getting you one.

Also: Electrocution is good on fast weapons because the damage isn't a function of regular weapon damage, so the only aspects of the weapon that matter are speed and accuracy (although obviously, regular weapon damage still does matter, just not for electrocution damage).

I'm gonna try with a wanderer (and a random race, most likely.)... Just for the Lulz.

Wish me luck, people!

I did this, and started off with a +3, +2 Elf Bow.

I am so fucked.

electrocution is a fairly good brand in general because there are less things immune to it than to fire of frost. Drain would be good if there weren't so many things drain-resistant :/

Try a troll berserker. Those don't require many special techiques. Just kill and eat everything in your path (that is not poisonous, that is). Once you are familiar, try the caster classes (I personally favor vampire casters. In parti.cular vampire wizards of sif muna and vampire transmuters of Kiku) or more refined fighting classes (kobold berserkers are better than troll berserkers once you get the gist of the game, IMO).

For the record, the reason I find vampire transmuters particularily good is that I find the evaporation of blood potions to be a particularily nasty weapon.

Augh! Dead! D:

Mara summoned a shitton of illusions who blasted me with fire bolts, which dealt enough damage to cut through my deep dwarf resistance. I guess I should have gotten the picture when the demons I summoned kept dying. I was trying to get past Mara to a book store. :(

DD was pretty fun. Maybe I'll try DDEE next.

That right there is my only gripe with DCSS over Nethack. "Lets give critters really powerful abilities that the player can't emulate at all. YAY balance."

Actually, players can easily pull of what Mara does. Just probably not by the time they MEET Mara. All Mara is doing is confusion, tons of illusions and high MR, just to stick the knife in. It's a potent combination though.

You forgot the one where Mara summons copies of itself and the player. Players can't summon more of themselves, and can't copy opponents. It would be a nifty ninth level summon spell to summon copies of yourself I think.

Why is it necessarily a bad thing that the player can't do absolutely everything that any monster can?

I think some people just like the idea.
