One thing I aways wanted to do is getting necromancy high enough to cast necromutation and then just play as a lich. Too bad my non undead necromancers never got that high.

Nope. All chunks of a given type are identical (except in rare cases, like gods disallowing cannibalism). You just got lucky.

Summon imp has been greatly improved, too. Red imps (which are what appears most of the time) used to blink randomly, making them useless as your horde tended to vanish in front of your eyes. Now the blink rate has been diminished, which results in sturdier imp armies.

I have a question about the amulet of the gourmand. Sorry if it has already been answered, I couldn't find anything in search.
In the item description, what does it mean when it says "... but these effects on the wearer's digestion are cumulative over time and initially small"?

   It means that some of the affects do not immediately
take affect so you can't just throw it on whenever you
want to eat something then replace it with a better amulet
and go back to fighting.

   Its how much nutrition you get from chunks and the
protection from contaminated meat:

The amount of nutrition you get from meat depends
on how long you've been wearing the amulet and slowly
increases from 0 to full, resetting if you take off the amulet
for even one turn. You will receive "satisfaction" type
messages indicating how much nutrition you got. The
full protection from contaminated meat also takes time
to activate.
