I think the Banishment card is also disabled.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Yeah... if you use the water card twice, you've basically won, haven't you?

I tried a Felid in the 3rd Sprint map and was surprised to see that they are in fact very good at killing.

I took a Felid Berzerker at first, but while exploring the room that had several doors leading to multiple altars, i was banished to Abyss by a wizard before i could even hit him.

In the Abyss i converted to Logunu (goal was to escape Abyss) Trog put my Felid on fire in retaliation (much better than his usual "i summon 4 or 5 hostile berserked monster in each tiles around you) but fortunately, in a nearby tile there was water, and Felid was happy to jump into it.

Then i resumed exploration of the map, then killed once i came back from the Abyss :
  A chaos spawn (D)
  A ghoul (D)
  2 orc warriors (D)
  3 two-headed ogres (D)
  A water elemental (D)
  A wizard (D)
  A necromancer (D)
  A jelly (D)
  A kobold demonologist (D)
  2 oozes (D)
  11 orcs (D)

And only by attacking them in melee, no power (i actually totally forgot that faith goes up a lot quicker in Sprint) just dodging and claws as i didn't have anymore the Trog berserk ability that allowed me to one hit Jessica, a deep elf priest and 3 humans.

And i had used 1 or the 2 extra life i gained early.

Unfortunately, Trog decided it was a good time to send another retailiation and i got the very bad one : several berserked monsters around my felid.

So i used a potion of speed and ran away to the stairs and lost by exiting instead of losing stupidly by inescapable death in front of 3 angry berserked bullies.
And once game was over, i remembered that faith increase quicker in Sprint, i could have used some of the nice Lugonu powers...

Is the Felid actually the new Spriggan ?
Because those monsters were actually awake, the Felid didn't used any sleep advantage to kill those monsters.
With a Spriggan i doubt i would have killed half of those in melee.

You want to start your felid as a crusader rather than a Trogger, since you get berserk at level 3 and leaves you open for transmuting in the future.

I'm having a lot of fun playing a kobold berserk. The ability to eat almost everything really helps with berserking's food costs, and you can use enchanted weapons, unlike a troll.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm having a lot more fun with the new version. I'm finding altars very early on, and the dungeon seems to have more features.

Trolls can use weapons; their aptitudes just sort of suck (although Maces & Flails isn't TOO bad).

The Dungeon Crawl forum is now hosted on CDO. Here's my latest victory.  8) Now that armour doesn't suck anymore I'm almost tempted to play a heavily-armored character. But I won't be playing Crawl for awhile.

Hey, I just got my second win ever! And my first ever caster win!

... and it's a 15-rune HeFe of Ashenzari which only came close to dying thee or four times, because I went full on derp mode, despite being my first ever character to do any of the following:

- cast Firestorm (actually my second ever, the first time I got firestorm castable at all was 2 days ago :) )
- cast Tornado
- cast Necromutation
- cast Controlled blink
- visit any of the following : Tomb, Pan, Hells
- get any of the following runes : Pan, Hells, Tomb
- enter a ziggurat
- use a crystal ball of energy

Ashenzari is (was?) incredibly overpowered, is what I'm saying. It almost feels like cheating, but hey - second win! And I'd never be able to pull it off it weren't for good old Ash. Besides, in the post-endgame content he wasn't that good - just pretty incredible.

Still, though. I had Firestorm castable before my first rune, and Tornado before my second. The branches I did at lvls 20-26 felt the cheesiest, because by that point Ashenzari was completely overpowered. I stopped pretending I was playing Crawl when I was killing elves at Elf:1 by Tornado-ing the flame clouds from Fire Storm around. Transfer knowledge is incredible and if I were a better player I could've pulled off a lot more skills at 27 a lot earlier. Still. Oh, and Tornado can damage enemies through walls, while Scrying lets you see through walls. I killed two of the hell lords that way, because I was so afraid of facing them directly. I fought the rest face to face, though, it was more fun :)

All in all I found the Hells to be the most dangerous, because of the hell effects, which incidentally resulted in me learning the abyss by heart (figuratively speaking). I got abyssed so many times it was mind-numbing. I also had about 60 rotten HP at some point because of a lack of rMut and staying in Lich form all the time.

When I entered the Ziggurat I thought I'd done something wrong, though :) It was a 3k fee one, I skipped one earlier which cost 7k and since the first 10 floors were very tiny and filled with insignificant enemies I thought the size and loot was dependent on the price... oh how wrong I just was. No angel levels, though, thank god - I rolled full lich because of the novelty.

I found Tornado to be much better and easier to use than Fire Storm, so I stuck to it most of the time. I had no mutation resistance till the very end, and rElec till my last rune, I think. I also assumed I'd missed one of the pan lords, because I wasn't paying attention and I kept hitting normal pan levels which I just started skipping at some point, but thankfully I found Mnoleg and his league of mutating creeps. Frankly, by that point I was actually getting bored... And thus I grabbed my favourite items from my stash and ascended.

I'm glad I won, but it feels a bit...cheaty :( Still, it was great fun, and I got to see the post-endgame content without wizard mode or save scumming! So I guess I can take a break from Crawling for a day or two, at last.

Oh, here's the dump, btw :

Ashenzari is overpowered mostly because the XP Transfer ability is really stupid (seriously, you already get free XP for using Ashenzari AND he lets you transfer skill points to skills without having to train them), he has no wrath if you abandon him (yet), and there's virtually no way to lose piety or get him mad.

Tornado is pretty overpowered too. It's more like being the center of a giant lawnmower blade, causing constant irresistible damage all around you wherever you go, while remaining safe from its effects. And flying.

Yeah, you won't catch me disagreeing with you on that :)

It's kind of nice as a one-trunk deal for newbies, to actually feel powerful for once, but I'm fairly certain he's in for some profuse modifications. It'd be quite interesting if his altars are generated only in the hells, for example, to depict his cursed nature.

But still, I'm damn proud of my win :)

I like how being paralyzed multiple times does not interrupt the butchering process...

You see here a giant bat corpse.
 Switching to a butchering implement.
k - an uncursed dagger (weapon)
_The giant eyeball stares at you. You suddenly lose the ability to move!
_You can move again.
You start butchering the giant bat corpse.
_You continue butchering the corpse. x2
_The giant eyeball stares at you. You suddenly lose the ability to move!
_You can move again.
 You continue butchering the corpse.
_The giant eyeball stares at you. You suddenly lose the ability to move!
 You can move again.
_The giant eyeball stares at you. You suddenly lose the ability to move!
_You can move again.
You finish chopping the giant bat corpse into pieces.
You switch back to your bare hands.
_You see here a chunk of giant bat flesh.

Dude, you can't afford to waste a second while butchering, every adventurer worth his salt knows that. Same with how you can't possibly interrupt putting on armor - someone might catch you off-gua... wait a second...

Yahoooo!  After about a dozen periods of addiction over nine years of playing this game intermittently (I started way back before Stone Soup) and then ragequitting when I lost a few promising characters...  I can report my first ever win!

Kobold Berserker, had some luck with early items (ring of sustenance for berserk-all-the-time and an artifact rPois rN cloak) but mostly just stormed everything through being tiny yet very, very mad.
