I think you're talking about Sif Muna or Sif Muna :)

To check what is your current faith rank with Sif, if you play with the tile version, just right click on yourself to bring the character status panel and see how much # you have with Sif Muna, or you can press the ^ key and check directly what Sif is thinking of you.

If i remember well my last run with Sif, leveling Spellcasting and the various spell components (Ice magic, Fire Magic, etc...) will earn you more faith ranking, so each time you have experience to spend, cast a spell.
And additionally, be sure to worry about Spell Hunger, so prioritise Spellcasting in your Skill list (so most of the experience you can spend will go more into Spellcasting than in other magic branches, but don't worry even skills with priority turned off continue to gain a part of that experience spent, just slower than skill with priorityon) and select Intelligence each time you are allowed to increase one of your stats.

By example, when your Intelligence multiplied by your Spellcasting skill reach 100 by example, you can cast spell level 1 and spell level 2 without generating any spell hunger.

So in the beginning try to not cast higher spell level if you find very few food or can't butcher corpse easily, as the hunger they give to your character can be a real problem.

I managed to complete the Tourney Sprint scenario, but 4 hours too late for it to be worth any points - it took a lot longer than anticipated..

Impressive, after getting a victory in regular Crawl a day ago, now you get one in Sprint too.
Congratulations.
Before you know it, you'll get one of those amazing 15 runes victory ;)

Quote from: crawl changes
remove duane, francis, and norbert

So I've found the git repository, and RSS'd the changes they're making... is the documentary or discussion as to the 'why' of these changes (well, the non-strictly-mechanical-improvement changes) hidden somewhere else? Duane had a really strong theme going on, with the whole sibling rage thing. I'd be curious as to why they ditched, uh, whichever gender pronoun fits that one.

Anyway, that's the question.

I think you're mistaking Duane for Dowan.

I didn't met Duane, Francis and Norbert in the dungeons enough to have them having any strong link with Crawl for me, but i find strange that the devs are removing uniques ?

I had some fun with a mummy chaos knight of Makhleb, the lack of hunger makes usage of the (if you survive enough to earn it) minor destruction spell a very good survival tool and minor servant can be very good as some demons may summon hordes of imps and create zombies with monsters that have just been killed.

The only problem is that the spell that will save your mummy from some nearly impossible to get away situations later (summon greater servant) cost so much faith that you'll soon enough lose it, needed to regain more faith ranks.
And you'll want to increase invocations instead of spellcasting if you want to keep those demons friendly instead of hostile (good that you don't have spell hunger with a mummy as you'll need to spam minor destruction to get move invocation skill).

Fortunately mummies are good characters for earning faith point for the deities like Makhleb that require corpses sacrifices, as they have no need to eat anything, you can just sacrifice everything you kill.
But it needs a lot to regain "summon greater servant".

That's a very fun combo.

Whoops. Yeah, I was. Actually, I haven't ran into Duane very often, which is probably why I mixed 'im up with Dowan, who I run into regularly. The name's even fairly similar...

Francis and Norbert I stumbled over numerous times in th'tourney, though, I do kinda' remember them wandering around. I guess I was mostly just curious as to if there was centralized 'white page' material for crawl; I know the information is (mostly) out there, I just didn't know if it'd been put in one place. Guess I should look at the devwiki a bit harder or something.

Only wiki brainstorming page i found mentionning Duane is there :
Code: [Select]
https://crawl.develz.org/wiki/doku.php?id=dcss:feedback:uniques&s[]=duane
But nowhere i find any reason wrote for the removal of those 3 uniques.

I can answer this one. Those uniques were cut because they were boring. Really boring. The "heavily armored spellcaster-fighter hybrid unique" category was already VERY crowded.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Which is odd, considering that player characters are all but barred from that route, aren't they?

In a sense. It's more that resistances matter much more than a few points of AC or EV, so everybody wears GDA, a robe of resistance, or kickass randart medium armor if they were wearing a robe. And even then, wearing the robe is probably best ever since the AC nerf.

But wasn't the AC nerf reversed in 0.7 ?
I remember reading about AC improvement at some point of the 0.7 RC.

It's still nerfed and point-per-point, EV is still better at damage avoidance than AC. Not sure how the new SH comes into the equation, though.

Decided to try Deep Elf Summoner again, and racked up my third online win.

I was going to go for more than 3 runes, but then I thought about how long I have wanted to win as a DE caster of some kind, and how pissed I'd be if I died. I may try for 3-rune wins with each of my favorite combos, then after that start working on the crazy bonus runes. At the very least, it seemed like a bad bad idea to try the Hells when I only had 124 HP.

DESu is a very powerful combo. I think I will write a strategy guide for the wiki.

Sif MuSu is where it's at, maan, as far as non-hybrid summoners go. Crap gets ridiculous when you can spit out a haunt every 2-3 turns and a literally unending stream of summon imp (plus the occasional canine and ice beast) kills pretty much everything until then. I just learned (a few days after the tourney) about the 1/2 XP thing, though. That made me sad.

'Course, Mummies kinda' suck. Probably the only mummy combo that isn't horribly gimped compared to every other race, the poor things.
