Teleportation just seems to hate me

One character's first item found, was a cursed ring of teleportation, every 10-20 steps randomly jumped to somewhere in the level.  And not a single scroll of remove curse.

*blink* *steps* *blink* *steps* *blink* all the way down to level 4, when it became, *blink* *steps* *blink* "..... Why am I surrounded by 5 orcs?"

After 14 characters before even hitting level 5 of the dungeon, I don't have the patience for the year of "learning" it would take to still not be able to avoid getting completely boned by random generation.

Come on. It only took me 3 weeks to win. Here is how I won:

- I received a lot of advice from other players.
- I read every spoiler.
- I played easy combos.
- I died a lot. Die, learn from your mistakes, and change how you play.

Your words fill me with sadness, but resignation. At least vamps don't need to butcher to get their food, but stuck weapon means no blood potions, too. Maybe I'll swap over to kiku at some point for corpses, or something. Or just leave it be and get HP via Makkie.

Don't listen to him. You don't always get banished. Sometimes you glow, teleport, or receive massive damage.  :P

A fun little challenge :
Take a spriggan assassin and try to reach the lowest possible dungeon level in the lowest possible amount of turns and with the lowest amount of kills (and of course try not to cheat that's a friendly challenge ;) ).

You can take every kind of items you find and use them if you want/need.
My best try so far :

was really surprised to nearly kill an Ogre with 1 stealth attack despite being level 1 (the Ogre died with a second blow of my dagger), it got my character to level up from level 1 to level 4 !

I just drank a Mutation potion, and I know suddenly have a small pair of horns, I can breathe flames, and I passively map a small area around me.  This is the coolest thing ever. I have also successfully evaded Sigmund.  Good thing he was asleep.

Stabbing is the best thing ever. That's why spriggan enchanters are so good. Their starting book has Ensorcelled hibernation, which lets you put enemies to sleep. And they have great aptitudes for short blades, stealth and stabbing. And enchantments.

Well, personally, I prefer assassins. The +2 starting dagger is a decent weapon to stab with, and they have higher starting strength. I like having at least 10 Str or so, for the carrying capacity. And the poison needles are an excellent way of dealing with most early baddies you fail to stab.

Also I made D:7 in 633 turns on my first try.

And D:9 in 775 turns on my second! Found a lucky shaft. :)

Ouch, an insta-killing steam breath.
Nice run, only 664 turns to reach that floor, that's some lucky quick stair finding you got there :D

shaft are really helpfull in this kind of challenge, i had difficulty to find a stair down in one of the floor, and a shaft really came in handy to jump over a few level down, 445 turns for floor 9 :

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

i was stuck at a death trap there, a corridor with several orcs at one end, and several gnoll at the other end, and no teleportation scrolls.
Only insane luck would have helped, but luck is not one of my personnal items ;)

Is it odd that I clear every dungeon level before proceeding, unless I run into a unique I can't handle?

Not odd, because i guess that's what mostly everyone do for the first few dungeon floors, as you'll need to level up quickly in the beginning to avoid dying because of too strong/wand users/arrows/long range spells monsters later, and killing everything on sight in the beginning is the only way to keep your leveling on par for the much more difficult deeper floors

I do it on every floor, no matter how deep I go.

Me too, unless I meet something really dangerous and have no way of reliably killing it.

I'm at D11 atm, draconian monk again, white draconian that is. The RNG has blessed me with a +5 dex ring and a scimitar of draining. I still need proper clothes and a better weapon though.

That was fun. I think they have a similar challenge online. It's called the Iron man challenge. You get to the bottom of the dungeon as quickly as possible, then you exit the dungeon afterwards.

I do this on all my games, all levels.
I just can't run. Must..clear...levels.
And that is why I die.

Ye gods. Mara. I'd rather scoop my eyes out with a melon baller than fight him again. I think the battle with him took close to 1000 turns.
