Woah, my own Ice Imp just missed its target and killed me.

This game never ceases to make me sad.
But at least it doesn't have stupid instadeath traps like NetHack.

I finally found an altar to Nemelex, surrounded by lava. Used my lone scroll of blinking to reach it. I can hardly walk around the dungeon without a god. I've been indiscriminately sacrificing everything to get rid of the clutter. What are decks of dungeons good for?

I found some wandering mushrooms. I have only encountered them before when worshipping Fedhas. They're spooky. I backstabbed several of the pack, but some three or so survived. And now they're following right behind me. From my experiences of having them fight alongside me, they confuse enemies and hit pretty hard. I have clarity, but I'm worried for my spriggan hit points. Hmh. Looks like they go dormant again pretty quick.

I am just drowning in various needles and darts I'm too miserly to throw away. Well, the needles are incredibly useful, I just killed a hill giant with them, but the darts? Not so much. Especially with my dagger of returning. Maybe I should just give the lot to Nemelex.

UPDATE: Now I found a demon trident of venom. I'm tempted to start training polearms just for the chance to wield a demon trident, but I don't think that is actually a good idea. I'm dishing out quite a bit of pain with my +7/+3 dagger of speed, and I don't even have a negative aptitude for it. I'm still going to save the demon stick, though, rather than give it to Nellie-baby.

Oh, and I found a stone of earth elementals. I have evocations anyway, so if I find something to train earth magic with, it might be worth it.

'Trowel' card.  You might also find some others like magic mapping or watering, but Trowel is pretty much the only really shiny card in there.

Summoning and Destruction are the main usage decks.  If you want to heavily rely on Nemelex, go for those.  If you're just looking for a bit of interesting support, you can use Escape decks until you get up to a good evocations skill and piety level, and then switch over to decks of Wonders.  Some veeery nifty stuff in there, but it tends to backfire at the lower levels.

As in, backfire horribly.

Dungeon decks, surprisingly enough, change the dungeon. Notables include the Trowel card, which can create altars, statues and golems, or portals, Vitrification, which can turn a portion or the entire level into clear stone, and Water, which creates large watery areas.

Do monsters actively try to destroy neutral ballistomecytes, or will they pretty much stay there forever?

Monsters in Crawl are only interested in killing you and your friends. They'll ignore neutral creatures, unless they get attacked.

Here's everything you ever wanted to know about Nemelex.  Any questions or criticism is welcomed, so I can improve it.  :)

And now a lajatang. Almighty Xom is really pelting me with rare and useful weapons now I don't really need them all that bad. Thanks for the Nemelex Guide, trying to figure out those cards by myself has a certain charm, but the chance to die a stupid death is a wee bit too big.

UPDATE: Slew a mottled dragon and crafted armor out of it. Hooray!

The idea of turning every level into something completely taken over by you is actually very appealing.  I might need to have a go at it some time.

Do monsters actively try to destroy neutral ballistomecytes, or will they pretty much stay there forever?

They seem to generally ignore neutral plant life, so the spore shrooms will end up sticking around for quite some time.  Friendly plants will be targeted like standard allies, and neutrals will get attacked if they're blocking a monster from going somewhere they really want to go.

Monsters will attack plants to reach you, but otherwise they generally get left alone.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

What's wrong with the Decks of Destruction?  Do they miscast or something?

Also, I drew an entire deck of dungeons once for piety.  The resulting mess looked a lot like an altar to Xom (especially since the trowel card actually made one, heh).

Wait... if you draw an Experience card from a legendary deck at, say, XL 26, you'll advanced millions of experience points to level 27??

Also, I really want to vitrify the whole of Zot: 5 for some reason :P.

Decks of Destruction include a lot of cards that can backfire quite easily.  Lightning, fireballs, torment, Olgreb's Toxic Radiance, and a couple others.

Summoning is far and away the "safest" deck.  It's essentially the only one where you can "fix" a bad draw by drawing again.  Hostile summons will be dealt with by friendlies.

I was under the impression that legendary Experience advances you a level and then sets your exp. at exactly 20,000 (the cap).

I was messing around with Fedhas a bit today, Can you evolve anything into something other than wandering shrooms and oklabs?  I'm thinking of using it with a kenku and just drowning everything with rain while flying.  I played one today but only got to sunshine, and died in the lair due to distractedly pressing a wrong key right when I should have been retreating.  I noticed sunshine was only covering a few tiles, how torrential of rain can you make?  I like the god's mechanic, but i'd like there to be ways to generate base plants (does rain + sunshine do this?)

This build would also want to have something that gives perma-levitation, like boots of lev.

Sunshine occasionally makes plants, I think Rain makes plants with a pretty good frequency. Of course, in Lair, you should have no trouble finding plants.

I'm afraid you can only evolve wanderin' shrooms and oklobs, yes.  Rain covers everything in a circle centered on you, with the NS/EW crosshatch being seven tiles (if I remember correctly). The tile you stand on is not affected.

You can generate plants quickly, assuredly, and easily with the "Growth" ability.  This costs a lot of fruit though (one per plant, up to a maximum of eight plants spawned), so stock up on those sultanas.

Merfolk do quite well with rain, for obvious reasons.  More so even than kenku.
