Found it. With Okawaru for haste and might, my amulet for rage, I'm set for a warrior. Now I just need to find some heavier armor and a better mace, which I can probably get in orc.

Edit: Found a +2/+2 Hammer of Draining, after finding a Spiked Flail of Draining. Lots of draining crap here.

It would be cool if Crawl took a hint from Powder, and made it so that not only your god, but other gods as well, affected you.

So I have an Eveningstar of Holy Wrath and a Hammer of Protection. I'm trying to decide which to use. The hammer is 5 ac, the evening star is significantly more powerful. I also have a Whip of Flaming, which I may hold on to to use against faster enemies, but I'm not really sure which I should use for day to day combat.

Whats your AC without the hammer? A general rule of thumb is, if its dead, it can't hurt you. So if you have decent armor without the hammer, use the eveningstar.

It would be cool if Crawl took a hint from Powder, and made it so that not only your god, but other gods as well, affected you.
I always thought it was odd that out of the thousands of men I send to their deaths, no one bothers worshipping someone BEFORE they go in. I mean, I can understand mages, thinking they are strong enough then OH SHI, but if I'm a beatstick user, I'm worshipping Okawaru or TSO or SOMEONE before heading down.

I remember reading that in 0.6.0 armor AC is nerfed so much to the point of it not being as good as evasion.
Hopefully should be corrected in 0.7.0 as AC armor system is said to have been improved

So if you currently play in 0.6.0, maybe you should favour the Eveningstar of Holy Wrath as the +5 AC from the Hammer of Protection. may be negligible because of the 0.6.0 AC nerf.
In 0.7.0 this should be a more difficult choice to make.

I'm noticing that while AC is not as good against a single target, when you're facing large numbers of enemies (like in Orc) it's very useful. 8 guys pounding on you means you'll take a lot of hits, and with 21 AC it helps a fair bit.

I also now have a +1,+2 Hammer of Crushing. Lots of nice weapons, and Okawaru hasn't even started giving gifts yet. Tis great.

Edit: Think I'll go with the evening star though. I'll hold on to the protection hammer and the flaming whip, and possibly the +2,+2 hammer that has no brand, in case I find a good scroll.

So. I started a demonspawn chaos knight of Lugonu, with polearms. My original intent was to take Siggie's scythe and endistort it with Lugonu's ability. Because hot damn that would be awesome. Anyway, I'm starting to have second thoughts about this plan, since I've heard that scythes aren't actually all that great as weapons. Am I seriously impairing myself by not swithcing to swords? Because I've seen a couple of orcish falchions around and I suppose a longsword of distortion would also be pretty sexy.

Also, I have very little idea how to use my Lugonu abilities. The blinking is okay for throwing poison darts at ogres, but the pain limits its usefulness.

Lugonu is actually a very useful god.

-When going after the abyssal rune, your chances of it spawning are significantly higher. Followers of Lugonu can find it very quickly, and then teleport out.
-You can banish tougher enemies, though you get no experience for it.
-When going after the orb, you can use scrolls to reveal the vault then corrupt the back wall, summon (there's an ability that calls items to you) the orb, grab it, and immediately warp to the abyss, saving you that ridiculous fight. From there, I believe leaving the abyss will dump you outside the vault.

I'd skip enchanting the scythe, they have an attack delay of 200% and an accuracy penalty of -4 for 14 damage. For reference, an eveningstar is one handed, has an attack delay of 150%, and a penalty of -1 for the same damage.

I found a shield of reflection. Never used one, but it looks cool.

IDK. Makhleb seems a more straightfowardly easy pick for a chaos knight. I'm playing Lugonu now for the most part because it's different. Makhleb works, but hell... only four powers. I think he could use some loving from the devs in that regard. For flavor, at the very least

It should probably be a bladed weapon, since the pesky unwielding effects would be way too common if I couldn't use it for butchery. And the polearms category doesn't have that many of those. Maybe I'll switch the one of these swords. I've only gotten four points of polearm skill, anyway.

And it will be SOME TIME until I have to worry about Zot. I've never even gotten to the Vaults! :D

It would be cool if Crawl took a hint from Powder, and made it so that not only your god, but other gods as well, affected you.
Xom affects you even when you don't worship her. In fact, Xom affects you even when you're playing some other game instead of Crawl.

I just found Crystal Platemail on dungeon 3, playing a demonspawn chaos knight as well.

Should I wear it? Right now I'm using +1 chainmail.

I think crystal platemail is pretty great, although I can't remember the stats for it. I haven't run into any recently.

It is the heaviest base armor in the game, 14 AC, even better than gold dragon armor.

And it only has -8EV instead of gold dragon armor's -9

Unfortunately that doesn't help when an ogre smacks you for double your HP in damage.
