I think the game only stops you when you (w)ield stuff. The wiki says it's possible to override in some cases, and I can't remember if I was prompted to re-equip it after butchering. dASDJNALEASKMDAK RAAEEEEGGGGG

Sometime i really wonder if the random generator is really random or if there is some kind of joke the devs found funny to inflict on the players :D

Usually when i play with a character that never need to eat (vampire, mummy), i usually find 1 or 2 shops that sell lots of transportable food, just on my current vampire death knight run, i found 2 of those shops.

And every single time i played with a character for which food is a problem, i have never found any of those food shops.

Anyways, my vampire death knight found an excellent polearms, too bad he has strictly no skill into such weaponry, will have to train him against lesser monsters with it before going deeper in level and meet monster i can't hit with such low level of polearms mastery, very good that food is not a problem for a vampire.

I found the berzerk ability that comes with this polearm to be extremely great, even more than the damage bonus against anything dragon-kind. I wonder how good it will be if i use it with a shield, the wiki does not explain anything about the advantage/disadvantages of this in term of weapon handling.

Especially for a character that has no food problem, going berzerk will be very fun.

Vampires can only rage when they're maxed out on blood (ie "Alive"), I think.

I tested, and in fact you just need to be "full" to have the vampire being able to rage, rather easy to reach with drinking a bit.

Will have to bottle some blood for later lifeless branches as i may need the rage there (especially thinking about the iron golems guarding the lowest level that were very difficult to kill for my vampire necro and his army of abomination created with Twisted Resurrection).

k, fixed the lag problem. Some stuff with the config, I reckon.

Playing poison mages atm, with the intention to branch into necro as soon as I find the right books

Has anybody tried the new tutorial in 7 yet? At the "end", it tells you that Sigmund is in the next room, that he's the bane of new players, that you'll probably die, and good luck. If you kill him (wand of fireballs - SAVE IT FOR THIS!) The next floor congratulates you on your kill. The next room has a demon that can kill you at range in one hit.

I'm tempted to turn on Wiz mode and see if they added anything after that. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to defeat him with what you've been given otherwise though.

How do you activate the tutorial again?

In the main of the current unstable 0.7 release you just choose "Tutorial for Dungeon Crawl" instead of one of the other game modes listed.

I have been surprised by the demon after you defeat Sigmund, i don't remember having seen a sprite as big as this one in 0.5 and 0.6

yeah, I like tiles. The first time I played a roguelike, it was a tiled one (Zangband, for the record).

I was playing a successful game as a knight of lugonu with a vamp, and then died stupidly by using Lugonu's blinking power.

Now I am playing a game as a human stalker, doing even better (protip: ignore poison blade, which I have found is nigh useless. Instead, go with sureblade and build up enchant with that)

I thought you couldn't equip vampiric weapons unless you were satiated? Maybe that's only in Trunk.

My latest is a lv.8 Sludge Elf Transmuter. It's going pretty well. I've found a bunch of spellbooks lying around, but they haven't had many spells that are both useful and can be cast by me reliably. Found a ring of poison resistance, so I can eat kobolds and hurl potions of poison in melee. Haven't found temple yet. A shaft dropped me three levels down, to D:11, but I managed to barely escape with my life.

Does Maxwell's Silver Hammer work on staves? It'd be a decent spell to train earth magic with. Summon Elemental becomes reliable at around 8 earth magic, right?

There were something called "demonic crawlers" on D:6. Are those nasty? They sounded pretty nasty to me.

The temple can only appear on D:4 through D:7. Hit Control-o to see the ranges that the various branches can appear in.

Maxwell's works with quarterstaffs, but I don't think it works with Lajatangs or special random staffs or rods (could be wrong on any of that, try it yourself). Not that it matters since the spell itself is pretty much just for training so you can cast Statue Form and Shatter. It's otherwise a temporary vorpalization, not all that impressive.

Were the crawlers behind a big moat of lava? If so, you might be able to confuse them into the lava for a bunch of free exp. I dunno if they resist poison or not. Otherwise, just ignore them. They have no means of crossing the lava. If they were just walking around, you're gonna want to stay away from them for awhile.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

There seemed to have been a moat of lava BEHIND the crawlers. My first guess was that they were generated on the other side but somehow got across. A misplaced teleportation trap? Who knows. :D

Yeah, I know Temple is way up. D:7 was the kind of level with several disconnected sections, where you have to go across levels to get to some places. I didn't want to go back up to D:6 on account of the crawlers, and then I fell down a shaft on D:8. I've gotten back up to D:9, though, so there is still hope I'll get there eventually.

Is there anything special I should consider when picking a god as a sludge elf transmuter? I personally prefer Sif over Vehumet in most cases.

Also, what's up with those stupid corrupted temples? The ones with crumbled walls and magma and water lying about and like five altars to Lugonu. I've stumbled on those a couple of times now (in Trunk) and they're kind of irritating, not having the altar I want.

@Transmuter god: That's easily one of the toughest questions in the game. Sif and Vehumet are ok (I'd take Sif over Vehumet). Okawaru gives you armor, Might, and Haste. Nemelex gives you all the rest of magical spells you'll need and since you won't be using any weapons, you can sac them all! Xom is easy to please since you can just drink the bad potions you carry around. Jivya might be good since you won't need any of the weapons the jellies love to eat, and any one stat being high compensates for the other being low. Fedhas gives you good breathing room if you branch out into Conjurations, Evocations, or some other form of ranged attacks. Cheibriados is good since you can actually use +15 to each stat. And of course Mahkleb provides all the spell effects and health-on-kills, which is ALWAYS nice.
