Also if you need to get to the tractor beam controls and some storm troopers are in the way, it would be useful.

Speaking of noise.

Damn scroll of noise!

I was in trouble. (Summoner, surrounded by 3 jackals.)
So I read a scroll hoping it might help..
YOU HEAR A SHOUT! YOU HEAR A LOUD CLANG! YOU HEAR A SHOUT!

So then every single enemy in the level came after me, killed my spammals, and killed me :(

Projected noise is a level two spell, not level one. Luring big monsters elsewhere would be a valid use for it, except that in most level layouts you can just go around them, and hoping that monsters don't notice you is extremely unreliable. I can't remember ever wishing I knew projected noise. Either the monsters are already after me, or I don't need to walk right past them.

I mean, if the game had some kind of guards that guarded certain areas that you could sneak up to, then it would be just great, but I've never met any. :(

Its a level 2 enchantment spell, which means its a decent way to train enchantment.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

BUT I WASN'T IN THE SLIME PITS

I WAS IN DUNGEON:4

I HAD 21 MAX HIT POINTS

AND THE LAYOUT OF THE AREA AROUND THE STAIRS LOOKED LIKE
Code: [Select]
THIS

I didn't notice the first "splashed with acid" message, moved and was killed by the second splash of acid.

I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS SCENARIO FAIR IN THE SLIGHTEST

That is an apparent bug. The walls are supposed to only come up in the Slime pits. Happened to someone else yesterday on D:3 as well, and for him, it was an instakill. He descended down the stairs and he was dead. You should report it if it hasn't been reported yet.

Projected noise is terrible and I would never train anything on it. Maybe if it could also silence my own footsteps a little or make an illusion it would be good.

I remember being able to see the race/class combo statistics on http://crawl.akrasiac.org/, but now I can't find them.

Is there any way to see how often certain class/race combos are being used?

Nethack is evil.

Stone Soup, however, is fun.
Also, next time you beat Crazy Yuif, take his awesome staff of awesome.

You couldn't?

I used it the first time I got it, thought it was awesome. Very random though, and random is bad.
