Teleportis is probably the worst mutation possible.

Unless you have teleport control!

But yeah, the thing that kills me more than than most other things is that I simply forget what I have available. I've died from powerful creatures with four scrolls of goddamn Blinking in my backpack, for instance. So whenever you're in a jam, just examine your inventory, spells, and abilities. Make sure you aren't missing anything, and GTFO if you find something that'll help you do so.

That's a big problem of mine too, always after a monster kills or zap one of my character, i suddenly remember i had something that could have allowed me to escape.
I blame old age :D

I got one of my longest run ever, though my character "only" reached level 10, it was certainly the most intense.

It was a vampire necromancer.
I don't think any of my characters have been so near death but escaped and managed to get back into shape as much time as this one.
There's so many battles in which i saw this character death that i was always surprised to have him surviving, very often it was at 2 or 3 health points.
I think learning Regeneration from the necromancy book was actually what allowed this character to go that far.
How many time being sick and poisonned was going to kill him, just to have the vampire being saved by casting many regeneration spell (as each of them have a small turn duration), often being near to be out of magic point, until the poison worn off.

And out of that extremely usefull Regeneration spell, what got him that far is the fact he found many wands, only one of those wands was of an unknown usage (i saw it was a wand of digging in the morgue log).
Without those wands, there is no way i could have beaten some packs of monsters and the most resistant named guys with my necromancer.

But in the same time i don't remember being under assault from that many named enemies, usually i meet 2 or 3 of them, but during this run that"s 7 or 8 of them that crossed my path (and one that manage to kill my character in the end, she was blinking like crazy while hammering my vampire necromancer with a holy weapon).

On top of that, one of my former character ghost was around too, an ex wizard that was not bad at all, there i was lucky that when i found him when i had a few strong zombies helping me. He zapped many of them to oblivion and badly wounded my vampire before he was took out.

I found plenty of stores, rare that i find that much, unfortunately there was very gold i found during that run (you can only love the random numbers, this time i find nearly no gold is the time i find lots of shops) the most interesting items were out of reach.
While my previous run got a simple level 5 character very rich, but there was no store to be found.

anyways, here is the log

Finding a bow of reaping = awesome
Forgetting that your dagger is "of distortion" = abyss = death

I still love transmuters.

EAT STEAM!

What style has the best chance of spells succeding on transmuter?

Concentrate on transmuting skill until its at a decent level and wear stuff like robes if you can help it to decrease spell failure. The best robe is the elven which does better then any other barring racial preference(of course this means elves have it even better).

Well, it depends. If your undead, focus on the offensive spells like evaporate. If your not undead, Blade Hands. From what I've read on the wiki, Blade Hands can be one of the most powerful attacks in the game. Just, watch out for hydras. You can't put a flame brand on your hands.

If you had enchantment spells, could you enchant your blade-hands with fire?

Nope, you're better off using Bat-form to run away if you meet a hydra. Come back when you've learned Shatter, the best spell in the game. Don't believe me? Fire up wizard mode. One cast will do a ton of irresistible, undodgable damage to every enemy in LoS. It's enough that three castings will kill Pand Lords, pretty much guaranteed.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Well... it could be more prudent to just blast hydras with wands or ranged weapons.

Anyway, I'm playing as a Draconian Wanderer and I just encountered a hippogriff upon entering Dungeon:4. Quite out of its depth. I managed to hack it to bits by quaffing a potion of might, but that was quite luck-dependent fight.

I  have just come to the realization that I might have made slightly too many Deep Elf Wizard-conjurers. It's not rare for me to meet to ghosts of at one or two per game, which results in hilarious Spammal/Canine fights.
Also, 5 bats at level 7 summoning can easily take an ogre. Once you hit Level 5 Summoning, you can get a decent army out in about 4 rounds, then add dog support endlessly.

I do this sometimes.. and I sort of feel bad about it, but not really. I mean most of the time running into a ghost means skipping the level, it's completely ridiculous. Specially when the ghost is of a lower level character than you and it STILL ravages you with a single hit.

Maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

Maybe all of the ghosts skills level up once or twice. Summoners definitely spam more mammals. I had DeepElf, who died at Summoning 4, but when I met the git later, he was summoning two at a time.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

I'm not sure what it is, but I do know that ghosts are far stronger then the player that died. They don't have spell failure, and I think they cast any spell they know at the monster power level, even if they are level one.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.
