I've been trying out MiBe because I've honestly never really played a berserker until recently. And honestly they're pretty boring - with exactly four applicable skills to train (6 if you add evoc/thowing), it's basically "call allies, berserk, hold tab as you slaughter all your enemies with the biggest weapon you can find" over and over.

I should try that. I need a win with something other than a fighter.

hmmmmmmm. I think my next big set of runs might be a Beogh orc. I'd like to try to build an orc army at some point.

Just got my first win since 0.17, which is kind of annoying since its literally the second time I've played Crawl since the tournament. Oddly enough, this happened after last tourney too, except I instead 15-runed a NaTm of Chei.

All in all, 0.20 doesn't seem meaningfully different, at least not for a Formicid wearing Maxwells Armour. Formicids are actually pretty great: Innate digging lets you make killholes really easily and their very high synergy with shields lends itself well to one on one combat. Stasis is honestly more help then hindrance, since so many deaths are due to being slowed/paralyzed/blinked when you don't want to be. Lajatangs are still good, Ru is still good and AC is still the best resistance. New mutation pots are nice and I landed an MR+ from a stack of early mut pots. They're also really common[I think I found 17 of them, in total] and the only time you'll need them is against Orbs of Fire[Neqoxecs and Cacodemons seem to malmutate less now, since I fought a fair few summoned ones without getting tagged]. I got overall bad drops, with only two items standing out: An abundance of lajatangs, many of them speed branded and Maxwell's Armour. Notably, exactly ONE source of rN+ spawned in the entire game: Some fixedart demon blade that provided one pip and was guarded by a nest of oklobs. Between that and APOCALYPSE, I ended up overtraining my staves skill so I could still twirl swiftly while drained to the red. I also never cast a single spell, despite learning a bunch that I thought were useful, since Maxwells was the only good armour I found.

I've been trying out MiBe because I've honestly never really played a berserker until recently. And honestly they're pretty boring - with exactly four applicable skills to train (6 if you add evoc/thowing), it's basically "call allies, berserk, hold tab as you slaughter all your enemies with the biggest weapon you can find" over and over.
I should try that. I need a win with something other than a fighter.

hmmmmmmm. I think my next big set of runs might be a Beogh orc. I'd like to try to build an orc army at some point.
Note that its possible (but hard) to go 15 runes with orc warlords. Just gift them resists. GDA is perfect - and Beough enchants it further!

Is ponderous something that you want on a stealth character? I'd think you'd want to be able to move as quickly as possible to avoid detection rolls, although I see you've got a number of spells, so maybe the +5 int and +10 MP are a valid tradeoff.

I have a question:
I just switched up to v.20
I am currently playing an orc monk of Beogh.
xl: 14
main skills:fighting, axes,armor, invocations
secondary: dodging,shields

I currently have 21 followers:
1 warlord
1 high priest
2 knights
assorted low level

piety is near max or max.

I have just found the orc mines on dungeon: 12 I have cleared lair but none of the branches.

should I go ahead and hit the orc mines, or finish out the dungeon, or even do lair branches, or something else?
additionally: any point in raising other skills?
I am a bit of an evocations fan, but the elemental items seem more trouble than they are worth, since they will probably hit followers.
a couple low level skills could be useful though. maybe regeneration or repel missiles or something

Finish dungeon, do orc, then work on Lair branches (except Slime, which is a lot harder - save that one for post-Vault:5 or maybe even post-Abyss). Generally, Swamp (if you have rPois) < Snake < Spider < Shoals.

What level are each of your skills at? What items do you have? Actually, could you post a character dump (press # then get it from your morgue folder) so we can see a full overview of your character?

I'd save Orc Mines to replenish your stocks between branches.  Also, Beogh protip:  Your orcs share experience with every orc onscreen after kills, so if you want to rack up the warlords keep most of your army parked in safety until you really need them.

Is there a recommended amount of skills to train at once? I've been playing a ton of Kobold Enchanters recently and feel like I'm spreading my skills out too much.

If you can get yourself into the habit of paying attention to kill level up messages, then ideally you only have one skill active at once. Practically, sometimes you just want to enable Fighting/Dodging/Maybe Armour and coast until you start having trouble killing things.

Finish dungeon, do orc, then work on Lair branches (except Slime, which is a lot harder - save that one for post-Vault:5 or maybe even post-Abyss). Generally, Swamp (if you have rPois) < Snake < Spider < Shoals.

What level are each of your skills at? What items do you have? Actually, could you post a character dump (press # then get it from your morgue folder) so we can see a full overview of your character?

I'd train that additional 0.1 of Axes to hit mindelay and then 10-12 levels of Dodging, since that's absurdly low for whatever reason. I mostly agree with TheDarkStar's branch list, but I'd rearrange the S-Branches thusly:

Swamp>Spider>Vaults>Snake>Shoals

If you have both Snake AND Shoals, then do Snake first and pray.
