I literally cleared tomb 3 by just going down the stairs, go up again to pull some mummies with you and whack em with an axe.
In my opinion, the hardest part of tomb was the hallway in Tomb 1 that you enter by clearing the first half of Tomb 2. You are trapped in a long narrow hallway and the nearest pair of stairs are a long way away. I managed to barely get through it by spamming teleport scrolls and my teleport wand.

How did you clear it?

Stand around a corner and apply axe to mummy.

I dunno if it's changed but last time I did Tomb it was just super tedious. You have to play safe and stairdance endlessly.

Apparently the abyssal rune of Zot spawns on Abyss:1 now, since I found it after getting banished without changing floors. (incidentally, I managed to get it as my first rune because I got banished just before I got to the Spider Nest)

I could've sworn that you can get banished directly to Abyss:3 in some cases now.

Not only Abyss:3, sometimes Abyss:4. Ancient liches can banish as deep as Abyss:5.

Most recent Beogh runs were experimental: I disposed of all orcs that did not have branded weapon. This got me killed more than a few times, and isn't efficient thing to do (instead of searching for one brand-wielder, you can train two-three normal orcs into warlords). Still, now the elite squad obliterates everything on its path.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Saint Roka and shield-bearers are outfitted in gold dragon armor, giving them much needed resists. When I cleared Zot:5, one of them got trap-transformed into jelly, so I retreated back to Zot:4, recalled... And got duplicate of the original orc, with all his gear intact (and duplicate gear still lying on the Zot trap). Jelly wandered Zot:5 for some time before being killed.

P.S. Beoghites, take note that rotting damage your orcs suffer is permanent. Its not quite noticeable with their HP > 400 at 27 lvl, though.

Science is always important. But it needs more flaming cats. Can't we build bridge-based catapults and fling flaming cats at the dust and goo?

It's time for the ATHATH Death Counter to increase once more in celebration for the end of the world.

Yup, if you are a caster you should have lichform by then and the entire tomb is a joke, if you are melee you should have rn+++ and you are tanky enough to stairdance, pick up 1-2 greater mummies and bash em.

Having harmless endgame fun as a ridiculously powerful MuFi: escorted Ereshkigal all the way to Tomb:3, shouted "wait here!" and left her alone. On the way, archdemoness constantly insulted me and recasted silence every few turns to, presumably, prevent my rantings about surrounding architecture, past victories and plans about future unlife.

+11 Long Sword (vamp, rF++, rC++ Stlth-) or +5 Double Sword of Slicing?

For context, I'm level 21 and have cleared Shoals/Snake/Orc/Vault:1-4 but I only have rF+ and rC+.

Edit: Is the Ring of Shadows worth using over, say, str+3 or MR?

Well, depends on what do you want to take on next and how much beating you can survive. Vamp can let you have a much easier time taking Elf and Vault:5 (or not, if they swarm you en masse), while double sword is your friend in Crypt and end game, when enhanted to +9.

Yes, but MR+ can be useful if you have low natural one.

HAH! So I wasn't crazy when I remembered 'didn't a few unique pan lords get to me (and die trying) when I was running up with the Orb'? o_O
...You had her as an ally?  :o

You're right about unique lords trying to kill you on the Orb run. I think it happens if you take their rune, yet leave them alive.

Ally? Sadly, but no, she was trying to kill me all the time. And failing miserably (title Invulnerable is surprisingly close to the truth for this character). You're also wrong to assume I've done it while already on the Orb run. Bone rune was the last one and I wanted to have some good laugh - so I lured Ereshkigal out of her secluded rotting netherworld and let her follow me on a sightseeing toor through Depths, Dungeon, Vaults and Crypt to the Tomb.

I'm thinking of continuing this from a pre-victory save. Pretty sure its possible to make Ereskigal follow me through all Pandemonium. The only problem would be inability to autoattack so not to hurt her.

EDIT: Yeah, walking through Pan with archdemoness was quite fun, especially when I learned to leave her to wander for some time, letting me clear lord of the place and all minions.

Bleh. As it turns out, Zot:5 < Slime:6 without rCorr. I should have just grabbed the orb and won with 4 runes instead of dying just before getting the fifth.

ouch. Furthest I have gotten was Zot:4. A lot of draconians did me a frighten.  And then they killed me.

How good of an idea is it to go slime without resist corrosion as a transmuter? I'm just being hypothetical here, I don't have any transmuter characters who've gotten that far.

I think it's safe to answer any question that contains "How good of an idea is it to go to slime without rCorr" with "Absolutely not." You can squeak through sometimes, but it's just not smart and it's way too easy to lose a really solid character to corrosion.
