So when's the next tourney? I skipped one, and did atrociously in the previous, so I feel a strong internal need to prove myself  :D

Generally, whenever the next version launches.

It's kinda a shame that tournaments really favour many 3 rune wins over a few 15 rune wins. Also playing online takes around 50% more time compared to offline.

HAH! I WON FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Spoiler: Character dump thing (click to show/hide)

And it only took me like ~9 straight hours. My eyes hurt. But I won! Turns out the trick is having a way[LCS, in my case] to deal with those stupid fire orb thingies near the end. Just having tons of health & resists and being good at melee and having absurd AOE nukes[APOCALYPSE] doesn't mean you can win. You also have to have spammable single target unresistable ranged damage for that specific threat alone[And others, but most other things can be pummelled to death normally or sniped with elemental damage]. A bunch of cure mutation potions from the Wizlab and a randart rMut amulet helped too, but it was mostly having LCS/Iron Shot AS WELL as Fire Storm/Fire Bolt that let me deal with most anything. Except that one guy who cast Silence and kept blocking my projectiles. I had to kill THEM with LRD.

Congrats on the win, but honestly it wasn't necessary to switch to magic to kill those orbs of fire.  A great mace would have done the job just fine, maybe even better, and saved you some XP.  But who cares, you won!

It is a bit annoying that you have to specially plan for orbs of fire, but usually my special plan for them is "I'm gonna smash 'em real good" or "I'm gonna learn some non-fire conjurations with which to smash 'em real good"

Occasionally my plan may include "I'll drink a bunch of potions since my weapon is a bit weak, then I'll smash 'em real good"

Grats on the win! The first one is the sweetest.

Though I do remember feeling like the game was taunting me even then. "Oh, you're leaving the dungeon? Already? It's okay, 3 runes is enough, I guess. I mean, you COULD go through that portal to the Abyss there. There's a rune. Oh, and there's the Halls of Pandemonium! Buncha runes in there. You could get 15, y'know, but no, 3 is fine. 20% is a success anywhere, right? I mean who would expect you to see the other half of the game before leaving? Pussy."

New blog post, notable for containing news in the next tourny.

That starts this Friday. Who wants to head up team management this time?

Despite my incredibly sporadic contribution to the Bay12 community, I am once again here to lend my axe lajatang to whatever team wants it for the 0.17 tourney. Just point me to the thread :)

I had a lot of fun last tournament and have been looking forward to this one for a long time but it's been scheduled during my university exams so I won't be able to play :(

oOOOOh, a tournament looks fun. I will need to familiarize myself with 0.17 first, but this could be interesting. Looking through the changes, the Confuse auto-succeeding for non-magic-immune creatures seems like a large reliability upgrade for Enchanters.

Hrnngh. I'm torn on this. On the one hand, it's been a while since I participated in a tournament and it would be fun to see if I could beat my (and Bay12's) 0.14 record - 30th place individually, and our clan just snuck into the top 10. But I've barely played the last few versions, and I'm unfamiliar with some of the changes. I'd hate to embarrass myself on that account. Plus it's a big time commitment.

Hmmmm.

Man the 0.14 tournament was so awesome for us. From what I've seen 0.17 is pretty much the same as 0.16 and if you keep away from the new races/gods the main thing to look out for since 0.14 is how hard the Depth is compared to what used to be lvl 20~27 of the Dungeon.

Oh man, tourney time!

It will be a pretty damn big time commitment... hmmm. However I could redeem my pretty abysmal performance from the last few tournaments.

On the other hand my latest Crawl exploits amount to losing thousands of Chei-bros mid-Depths, which isn't exactly the most reassuring thing ever.

Will there be a separate thread for this?
