If you aren't using a buckler/shield, switch to the exec. The difference between a broad and exec axe's base damage far outweighs the pros of having the elec brand vs antimagic.

In my opinion, antimagic is extremely useful for a Berseker. Most of the opponents that you actually have trouble with are casters or ranged - melee combatants are (almost always) eviscerated by berserking or quaffing might and the slightest amount of good positioning. Being able to devastate casters really limits what is going to be threatening. The only brands I'd take over antimagic are the vamp and speed brands (or cold if I'm in lair).

With that said, is Beogh a good choice for a hill orc fighter?
Beogh is nice for Orc fighters.
He will provide you allies (converting orcs you meet, and sometime even summoning some for you), and those can help you deal damage (especially warriros/knights/warlords with polearms) and buffer enemis' attacks (taking some damage while you quaff potion or take care of another enemy).
He will also give you the "Smite" ability, that is similar to the Orc priests one : you deal unavoidable damage to an enemy, even if there are other in front of him. This ability has its damage increased by the Invocation skill.
He also increases your defences a bit, and provide you with a water-walk passive, when you become Orc-Jesus (6* piety).

Is a longbow roughly equivalent to a crossbow?

It depends on your strength.
I don't have any fixed value, but I would say that with a nice Strength (20+), longbow can be better than crossbow.
Even when searching in the official forum, I can't find any tests since the recent (few months old ?) update on ranged weapons.

As the saying goes: NO ONE KNOWS HOW RANGED COMBAT WORKS!

Commonly Strength is the best thing to go for as a ranged character, unless you're going as a light/dodging char. and then you might want to be going the dex route (although make sure strength is still around 15-18).
In latest trunk ranged has been buffed significantly and Longbow needs only around level 12-15 (I think) to reach min. delay. Crossbows are really good though, especially with penetration/steel/silver bolts, and you can just pump it all into strength to be a walking, shooting tank.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Ahh, this never stops being fun:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

@Bows:
Unless it got changed ~15 used to be the goto strength value for longbows. This is/was the value where you started to fully benefit from it's enchantment.

Ranged combat was completely overhauled recently.

Now, longbows are supposed to be quite good.
Crossbows, less so, but still good.
Slings are apparently worthless now.
Throwing weapons are really good now too, especially if you can throw large rocks, which, thanks to the weightless changes, you can carry as many as you want.

This is all in trunk, not 0.14

R.I.P.
Is it a bullshit death, is it not a bullshit death, who knows. Not expecting things to hit you for 73 damage seems reasonable, but this is probably not a mistake I'll make again.

0.14: longbows > slings > crossbows

Trunk: longbows > crossbows > slings

Ranged has always been good. It's just that most players never touched it. Apparently, ranged is OP in trunk.

You didn't post the morgue file.

Oh, yeah, slime creatures. Do not tangle with them once they group up into into anything even moderately sized. This means not fighting them in hallways (as they group up faster) and running for dear life until they split. Even berserkers will splat facing of one of those.

yeah enormous slime creatures deal insane amounts of damage. I personally think it's a bit much - it seems to jump dramatically between one large and enormous. Best bet in future is just to beserk them while they're seperate. Axes work quite well with their slash ability, as you tend to damage them all quite a bit.

I am using 14.1 is that a trunk? Or is trunk just the browser version?

Btw, can I throw harmful potions like in adom and that will be useful?

I really suck. Been doing min bezerkers, but im careless. I rarely even get to the lair.

You can't throw potions any more (in earlier versions you could with a spell called evaporate) so just dump any of the bad potions you find.

Patience and running away is the only way you'll win. With a MiBe (mino bezerker) you can just keep axes, armour and fighting on throughout the whole game (switching fighting with evo occasionally) and just concentrate on being careful. You'll get more potions/scrolls than you know what to do with so always use them if it's looking a bit dangerous!
