You should watch out for hydras in swamp. You cleared lair, so you obviously know how to handle them, but they're more difficult in swamp, where there can be more of them, with swamp dragons accompanying ;)
Oh, and by the way, you shouldn't go in Elf. This is the worst place to go in unprepared, there is no rune, and the loot is not that good, when comparing the risk/reward with other branches.
and you'll need rCorr, Cons, and Clarity if you want to go in Slime. I recommend that you go in the 2 "easy" branches from lair (swamp then spider, once you get clarity). As you handled Orc:4, you should be able to go deeper in the dungeon, maybe finding the entrance of the Vault.
It would be a good place to go in, after a rune or two (depending on clarity), and after clearing the first 25 levels of the dungeon ;)

Died in swamp:5. Encountered a pack of hydras, dragons, and Aizul. Couldn't get away with Speed + distractions and was losing 20hp/turn from noxious breath or whatever. Oh well. Next time will be better!

You probably could've found a better weapon, try seaching for long blades or Scimitar since that Falchion is a horrible weapon in general. You also had 5 stars of Trog piety, which is not something you should have on death, since you should be spamming Trogbros whenever you feel your life is in danger. Like all gifting gods, Trog does occasionally give good things, but the best use of piety is spamming Trogbros.

You also identified two scrolls of acquirement. Did you use them? If I find them early enough, I tend to go for weapon acquirement on melee. Yeah, jewellery is ideal, but that requires you to have identified most of the common amulets and rings. Armour is also nice.

Also you're using a shield at 8 Shields skill - this is not really ideal, on a Demonspawn you require 15 skill to remove all attack speed penalties on that thing. I'd go for 5 skill and a buckler and focus on getting my Killdudes skills up - in your case Long Blades.

No idea if you're looking for advice, or even need it, I just like talking about Crawl :D

Also, this is probably the absolute edge of what I'm comfortable with doing on a slow-ass pure melee Naga. Good thing Evocations is a +1 apt, I literally started training it at the last possible moment.

On a Troggy (and more generally when you don't have a single point in any spellcasting skill), Acquirement of "Staff" is really good. You'll have a rod (or 75% when not a troggy). They're nearly as good as wands (I think they spellpower increases more with Evocation), but basically have infinite charges, in exchange to having to wield them (so you loose a turn when you have to switch to your melee weapon). The versality they bring you is awesome (as they give you access to spells you could not have, sometimes even with wands, and have 2 or more spells).
And no problem about pre-identifying the basic types : they're all basically great :D

I've literally never used a rod. I keep rods of frigid destruction and summoning on my character now and again, but remembering to use them? Man I gotta push like two whole buttons already, screw fidgeting with my inventory.

But yeah, I was thinking of mentioning rods - inaccuracy is also great against targets with low evasion, since it does a great amount of damage. Apart from that Ice Cloud is the other good offensive one. No idea about the defensive ones - there's one with Deflect Missiles, so it should give you a decent boost in survivability. Since they changed abjuration to be single-target I wouldn't bother with that one.

I'd personally still go for armour [or even weapon on a Troglodyte if I'm desperate enough].

edit : So huh, it appears Boots of the Assassin give the shortblades stabbing bonus to all weapons currently. Including Axes. Which cleave. Which applies the stabbing bonus. HoGl of Dithmengos, best assassin in the world 2014.

This was easier than expected. No real troubles, abused Ye Olde Hellbeaste trick a little bit because screw hellfire. Cocytus is the chillest hell [LOL HUMOUR], I like all the blue thingies there. This relatively new Freezing Wraith tile is gorgeous, Evocables are at least as powerful as everything else out there.

Also this is my 4th 15-rune win, and my third weapon-and-board one. Really want to get some cleavage going in Hell.

It's a Demon Blade that I've blessed via The Shining One's final ability. Generally TSO's Bless gives a weapon Holy brand and Enchant Weapon III's it. If it's a Demon Blade, Demon Trident or a Demon Whip it changes the weapon type and stats. The Blessed Blade gets +1 dmg -1 acc -1 delay.

I considered going TSO -> Bless weapon -> ALL HAIL THE ZIN-EMPEROR OF MANKIND but I've already 15-runed 2 Zinnites.

My latest promising character met his end at the hands of smiting orc priests. This time it was totally cheap. I was invisible. How can the AI target me for smite when I'm invisible? That's cheap, yo. Apparently I was glowing a bit and visible, according to the morgue. Dang. Should've quaffed a potion instead of moving that last tile when I had 2 health left.

Ah well. Halflings are surprisingly good for sneaking around, and Deadbongos seems like an interesting god choice for sneaky characters. More useful than some other gods at least. I had some great gear for sneaking though, I had a wand of invisible and a ring of invisible, waaaaaah that was useful. I probably should've used summon butterflies. Uuuugh. I got too reliant on invisibility and forgot butterflies was there. guess I'll keep trying sneaky dudes of Debtbangmoose, stealth is pretty fun.

Also I like the addition of tomahawks, although I'm sad at the change in throwing weapons. Now I "awkwardly" throw daggers and hand axes? Does this mean there's no brands of returning? No boomerang hand axes or daggers? Man, those were cool. At least the tomahawks seem effective.

So I had a brief run as a vampire enchanter. I lucked out and got a +1 vampiric dagger off some kobold I stabbed. It seems like successful attacks with a vampiric weapon as a vampire that trigger the vampiric brand also triggers your bloodsucking bite attack. While deliberately trying to make myself bloodless I managed to feed myself back up to thirsty simply from fighting a big kobold who had a bunch of potions of healing to quaff for a while. Seemed like every attack I landed caused me to drain its blood.

Also, Corona seems to increase your chance of spells working. Enemies that had a tendency to resist my metabolic englaciation would regularly fall asleep in one englaciation cast after lighting them up with corona. I managed to kill 3 orcs in quick succession with corona>englaciation>sleep stab with no damage taken.

This strategy ultimately led to my downfall as I got cocky, tried stair dancing a gnoll pack to kill off 1 by 1, and ran out of mp before I managed to put one to sleep. Even with corona, the gnoll resisted every englaciation. He pretty much poked me to death with a halberd while I waved my arms at him.

If vampirism were a more reliable brand I'd probably try making a vampire knight who's just pure melee. Health steal combined with high AC and the regeneration from being full of blood could be a neat tank.

The less blood you have, the more often you will use the bite attack.
