Thanks! Here it is:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

do you have the rN & torment resistance mutation? that would be extremely helpful in extended

I don't have it intrinsically but I have two rings of rN. I can't find conservation and mutation resistance at all and at this point I am out of vaults to raid. Are the Hells a doomed quest?

I want to confirm about casting with Crystal Plate.  Someone said it's possible to caste Haste with it, but didn't give me the requirements.  Right now I can't even cast Blink with it on.  Is this true? If so, what should my armour skill be at, spellcasting/charms skills..  also INT level.  I've been putting points into INT instead of DEX, which might be a mistake, you tell me.  This is my char dump : http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/Skyspire/Skyspire.txt

 Spider (5/5) Lair:6        Slime (0/6) Lair:6       Vaults (1/5) D:18

Right now I'm in the Vault.  Cleared the Spider's Nest easily.  Also blitzed through Labyrinth in less than 200 turns.  I was surprised to find a stack of 3 rods there so I've been putting more points in Evocation.  Evocation skill will make the rod spells more damaging, right?

I'm thinking of switching to Ash at some point, I'm still hoping for Okawaru to give me some better armour.   Nikola is guarding the stairs to Shoal 5, and he took out half my HP in one shot.. so i'm not going back there without rElec  ..  Also I still lack rCorr

So my questions are:   Is it really viable to cast Haste with Crystal Plate?  Or is this something only you do if going for a 15 rune win?   Should I stop putting points in INT and focus on DEX?  Put more points in Evocation for the rods?  Also I have a Stone of Tremors and I've never used one before.  Any suggestions on where would be the best place to use it?  bottom level of the Vault?  or Crypt?  Also I have 8 scrolls of recharging, so I don't have to worry about running out of teleport or heal wounds.   A wand of haste would be nice, though.

Thanks so much in advance.

You have only 21 strength when CPA has a 24 EV-penalty, so you may want to increase it a bit (even if it is not a sudden penalty reduction as it was in 0.12).
Also, only 13 armor skill, which reduce the spellcasting penalty, is low, especially for a gargoyle in CPA ...

If I were you, I would bump Strength at the next nevel and get armor to 16-18. that would increase a bit your defenses, and would reduce the spellcasting penalty at the same time.

On the 15-rune thing, I don't think Gargoyles is the best race for this (the bonus AC is great until the end of Lair/Orc, but the -20%HP will make you suffer in hellfires)... But hey, I haven't won a game yet, so I may not be the best adviser here...

the stone of tremors get its charge back when you get XP (although I can't really tell you how much you need for a full charge), so you may want to try it a few times. But beware : it make noise, and it would not surprise me if it woke up the whole level... It's more a "this vault seems dangerous but wall-y" than a "use only on this level for optimal use" thing.

The one thing that seems weird with your character is the lack of (good) artifact jewellery...
but hey, I killed my Lava Orc going for E:3 for those (but had 20 less AC, same HP, same MR than your Gargoyle) :D

Its pretty hard casting haste in CP... you just need lots of INT, lots of Charms and some Armour skill. Hmmm. You definitely want more armour skill in your CP though, whatever happens.

After DeltaFoxtrot and tompliss reassured me about Slime, I decided to give it a shot. It was almost a bit of a cakewalk - I was very very careful, but TRJ went down to three freezing clouds, one potion of brilliance and three ice storms (4 demonic guardians were slain in its honour :) ). As a result, I now have three runes and 2% failure rate on Ice Storm - all the +Int gear I have found, and indeed my Vehumet bonus and wizardry ring, are definitely helping me out now.

The loot included a manual of armour, so once I train a bit more Ice (I would prefer 1% failure on IS, and at least one of my jewellery slots back, the gourmand +3int amulet can't stay there forever), I will be tempted to pump up some better defenses. If I put on an FDA, Ice Storm drops to 34% fail, so I don't know, maybe the XP in Zot1-4 could be spent on armour? Or I could re

I guess I will go do Vaults 5 (Like a pro :) ),then pop into the Vestible of Hell to freeze the crap out of its denizens - I wonder how Murray's rC++ will compare to Ice Storm.

tompliss: Elf 3 is genuinely dangerous. No matter how well you think you are doing, those damn elves can ruin your day. In fact, now that you remind me, maybe now is the time for me to return to Elf and give that sorcerer bastard with the penchant for hellfire a bit of a cool down.

Elf Edit: Haha, now I understand why I couldn't kill that elf sorcerer - the ring I was suspicious of earlier turned out to be a ring of Ice, and he was also wielding a randart short sword of freezing with rC, giving him two pips of cold protection - took two ice storms to kill him off. Clever bastard must have made a nice choice of gear when he saw his comrades falling to my freezing clouds.

Gargoyles also have innate torment resistance, remember.

Yeah, stick flames is a lovley spell. It does oodles of (consistent) damage early on, staying pretty useful till a bit after you complete lair.
But yeah, you could also have dropped a conjured flame in front of you, which would stop the horror from actually attacking you or moving into the square, THEN shot a fireball at it.

Getting a bit scared for my latest character. I am at D8 now, and have found no fewer then 8(!) shops, selling: (unidentified) artifact weapon, (unidentified) artifact robe, and a robe of the archmagi, as well as tons of healing potions.

EDIT: Just died, ran into a tengu reaver and a hill giant. Started running, and went down to half health from the giant throwing bolders. Then the reaver started shooting fire at me, and I tried to run out of sight (had swiftness active). I should have just used a scroll of blinking as soon as he shot a spell at me.
At least I got past lair this time though, and I could have gotten farther (given that I had double spell enhancers on all conjurations, and a single enhancer on everything else) if I had been more careful there.

Trunk now has Formicids!

20% less HP than average
Medium size
Can use both a 2 hander and a shield, or a giant club without a shield
Growing antennae
Digging ability
Self-shafting ability
Slight AC boost from chitin
Poison weakness
Permastasis

As far as I can tell they don't really have enough going for them to make up for bad HP and permastasis.

All those people clamoring for another useless character type are probably so satisfied right now.

Between that one with 20% less health, the djinn with his shared mana - health, looks like recent additions are about easy to get YASD characters , though i didn't played much with the lava orcs when they went in.
Probably to counterbalance the Gargoyle that was a though race addition.

I'm still having a lot of fun with my Deep Elf conjurer in that 0.14.

And i love that ring of sustenance that i found very early , it simply removed all the tedious food minigame that often made me simply quit playing because i found it really too boring, you still need to eat , you still need to keep an eye on spell hunger, but it's so much more relaxed when wearing that ring that you can then focus on the much more interesting parts of  DCSS gameplay.

Anyways, i was attacking the Snake Pit, hoping to get the 2nd rune from that run, i finally landed in the last depth of it and was reminded why those Greater Naga are dangerous, shooting high damage, and able to teleport you (thanks to my own teleport scrolls to escape 2 times the very bad situation it had lead me into).

So i must say there's a big satisfaction when you kill those Greater Nagas with an humiliating very low damage spell

But a bit risky too :D

The rune big area was full of nagas, it was a big battle of attrition, moving in, frozen clouds, battlesphere, mystic blast, haste , running away , coming back etc... but i finally managed to get the upper hand and defeat that army (thanks poison resistance ring too :D ) .

Ah, the reward of that big dangerous enterprise, the 2nd rune

After all that experience and skills improvement, checking at how i had improved the Firestorm chances since i got it from Vehumet during the Shoals invasion (99% chance failure at the time)

Yes much better , a bit more and i'll finally get it online and ready.

So far i've been oddly more lucky than usual, and while i learned to not rely anymore on Battlesphere (thanks to my real damaging spells finally being usable) i'm still very cautious in what Crawl is preparing to throw at me soon.

I guess next destination is Vaults , hoping i'll keep the same lucky status

It's in situation like this that you appreciate your choice of never ceasing to train Stealth since the beginning

I'll let him sleep and move carefully away, far away.
