RIP in peace, Skeleington the orc priest, killed by a skeleton warrior.
He got a little too enthusiastic about his smites and didn't see the skeleton next to him

question: What are draconians good at, and how can I get them past floor 2 without dying horribly (granted, quite a few deaths were encountering sigmund without the means to run away...)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Recognizing early enough when a situation has too low chances of you surviving it so you can run away are the majors Crawl skills you'll need to learn in order of having your characters staying alive, it will come with time, after having played enough.

When you have a monster that spotted you and is as fast as you, run toward the nearest stairs, and get to another dungeon floor. You can then go back to the previous floor through other stairs later, if you really need to go back of course.

In Crawl heroic characters will end with an early YASD, cowardly characters will win the game ;)

I had the best luck with draconian spellcasters, specifically conjurers, although there's probably better mage classes for them. Granted, I only made it to level 7 once and got a white draconian out of it, and got splattered shortly there after, but still.

Draconians don't get to wear heavy armor, so they aren't all that great for melee builds unless you use transmutations or unarmed/statueform builds. Early game probably your best bet is spellcasting.

Draconians make good monks, transmuters and hybrids - necromancers, skalds, summoners, the like. They're kind of squishy as they can't wear any armour, but they are workable as melee.

Also, fuck you, Crawl  >:(

Moth of suppression behind a metric fuckton of draconians, had no mana to Sanctuary because of ghost moths, and Fire Dragons took 3/4s of my hp in like 2 hits. Could've lived if I had potions of mana, but no conservation means haha potions.

Could've had about 20 more AC if all my equip wasn't corroded, but that wouldn't have helped at all with the retarded HP gargoyles have. Elemental damage is bane, and moths of suppression are just stupid. Couldn't teleport as wands are also suppressed.

I'm wasting way too much time with deaths like this.

Draconians get quite a bit of natural AC, which is enough to make up for them not being able to wear good light armours.

Cool, my latest minotaur fighter just snagged a nice randart ring:

The Ring "Moklexag" (Regen Contam rF+ Acc+5).

As you can see, the only negative is that I'd get blasted my high glow if I take it off, but with bonuses like that, why the heck would I? ^_^

Edit: Goddamn orc high priest. I managed to get it isolated on the previous floor with stairdancing, but it then summoned a blue devil and a sixfirhy. I killed it to cut off more summoning, managed to knock off the blue devil, but the sixfirhy managed to shock me for a kill. BLARGH

Why in god's name were you even wearing equipment that corroded?

Also: Forget AC, you had more than enough of that. That 10 EV was several orders of magnitude more of a problem.

Well I figured I'd clear out Zot, swap for my non-corroded equip and go journey through the hells, since I didn't have conservation to defend against yellow dracs anyway.

As for the EV, I was actually planning on slapping on either a Crystal plate or a GDA, depending on what resists I found, but my spells were not at a good enough success % to do that. I guess I meant to get some more Charms in Zot? But yeah, some more evasion would've helped me a ton in the current situation.

Also Tryrar, you... might want to not enter the zig.

moot point, my centaur hunter ran into ammo issues, was forced to melee with his saber, and got wiped. Dammit, it seems every time I find an early altar to Okawaru, I get killed, and if I don't, I don't raise peity up fast enough for ammo gifts. WTF
