Seems the most appropriate spot, given Avatar is an animesque show.

Netflix's live action adaptation's got its trailer released and the show's due out on the 22nd. And it looks far, far better than the film-that-shall-not-be-named.

Yes, but does it look good at all?

Yeah, that was kind of a backhanded compliment.

It looks good, the bending's actually got some oomph to it which is nice, and from what I'm seeing it's looking like a faithful adaptation. Momo's not weirding me out like he did when they first showed him which is also a plus.

I am interested to see how they portray Iroh. He was my favourite character.

From the very little they actually show of dialogue, they do seem to have Sokka down quite well.

Sokka's actor looks more like his Ember Island Theater counterpart  :D :D

Honestly, I'm impressed by how faithful it looks. I don't know if they just put some insane amount of effort in their casting or if their vfx artist are just that good (which they probably are judging by the bending + animals/spirits cg) but Ozai looks right on point.

So the conclusion I'm getting here is that we use QSPs because dwarves can't pilot submarines.

So uhh, Bang Brave Bang Bravern (quite the title there) is this show that feels like a realistic mecha anime getting house invaded by a hero mecha anime.

3 episodes out so far and I can't quite figure out if I like it or not. I see the potential hilarity and awesomeness if they thread the line between the genres, but I also see how it can play it safe and straight and become fairly generic down the line. The self-awareness is certainly there to make it great, I just hope they have the guts to pull the rest of it off as well.

Plus I don't think the joke of the serious adult military folks being exasperated by the over the top, bigger than life giant talking robot is going to get old anytime fast.

You make it sound like someone turned a super robot wars arc into an anime, really.

I haven't been following avatar the TV show at all, but just some weeks ago I saw a picture of Aang and it just stood out to me how dumb and cheap the tattoo looked in it, and it gave me very bad vibes. Bit seeing this I completely rescind any thoughts I held against it, this looks great.

Yeah I watched the first 2 episodes of Bang Brave Bang Bravern. I liked what I saw. The first 2 episodes were really funny.

Not sure if I should post on the tv shows thread, but we already posted about the live action avatar here so..

First episode is out, I watched about half of it and will continue later. I got mixed feelings but it's too soon say if the show is good or bad overall. What stood out to me, is the decision to use the first episode (or at least its first half hour) for an exposition dump which felt overbearing to me. Perhaps it's because I already know that stuff but I think even people unfamiliar with the plot will find it too much to take in one sitting. To make matters worse in an episode chokefull of people explaining stuff, the dialogue feels kinda stiff and unnatural.

Edit: Nope. It's bad. Small changes are inevitable but this.. they even turned Suki from "a fierce warrior woman that beat respect into Sokka" to "A man from outside my village! Me so horny!"

Well... shit. Toriyama's apparently passed away. Legend that substantially defined entire genres of media work, anime and otherwise... hell of a loss.
