ok, watched a few more episodes but it seems more like they are repeating scenes to make the anime look longer then it really is.

A few scenes are repeated, but it doesn't add up to a lot of wasted time. It happens more toward the beginning, and less toward the end. Also, there are three OVA's which finish off and add a bit to the story. The first one tells a very interesting tale about Nice and her disability, and also introduces a truly badass new character, who I refer to now as Dark Kamina.

I'm a bit late to the bandwagon, but I noticed a trend in all of the shows I like to watch.

Some time last year, I watched the entire Escaflowne series. It was 26 episodes. Yesterday, I finished Samurai Champloo. 26 episodes. I'm about to start Trigun. You guessed it, 26 episodes.

Besides all of the big names that everyone knows, it seems that none of the Anime I like extend past 26 episodes.

No, this post has no point.

I noticed that a couple years ago; the average length of an anime show usually falls around 12, 26, or 50.

The Haruhi series decided to be awkward by having 14 episodes, I think :P.  But yeah, broadly speaking, that seems right.

Although I think this may extend beyond anime, to be honest.  Most American series I've watched tend to have around 24 episodes (The Simpsons originally did, but switched to 21 with 1 flashback episode per season), whilst British series tend to hover around 12 (Doctor Who tends to have 13, for instance).

A "season" of shows in Japan is 12-13 episodes, or maybe that's a "half-season". No I'm pretty sure it's a season. I forget because I don't watch anime anymore really.

So if an anime is slated to run one season, it'll be about that length. If it's slated to run two seasons, you'll see about 24-26 episodes, if it runs a full 4 seasons, that's the 50ish you're seeing.

A Season is 24 episodes, 12 episodes is a 'half-season' which has become very popular recently as they're very cheap and quick to produce, but still provide enough episodes to get a decent story arc going. As such, alot of smaller studios use half-seasons, and alot of larger studios like to run 'experimental' animes with an unknown quality as half-seasons as if the show fails it's not a huge problem, but if it succeeds it's easy to run a second half-season or a full season.

The 13th or 25th\26th episodes are usually DVD only extra eps, usually something silly and unrelated to the main storyline, often a Hot Springs Episode.

Of course this format is broken almost as often as it's ahered to, some Animes, like Haruhi, deliberately avoid this format so as to keep everyone on their toes (since the Haruhi series is basically about fucking with the reader\viewer), but that's the general format.

Why does NOONE catch that joke?

My rationalization of the whole season thing was that:

52 weeks in a year, half that is 26, so they limit themselves to 26 episodes, with one new episode a week so they can fit two seasons worth of show in one year in the same timeslot.

One suggestion I give to all of you is never to argue Canon or What is or isn't filler with anyone!

NEVER!

Bleach has far too much filler.

Although the zanpaktou arc seems to be good, I'd rather be watching stark unleash his.
